I have cheated on my Electrolux's with a Filter Queen

I don't know much about Filter Queen's, but I found this machine today at a thrift store for 20 bucks! It was in decent shape and worked, so I bought it. It is missing one of the latches on the side, I will fashion something for now until I can find a latch. Motor sounds good, no signs or sounds of wear, and PLENTY of suction.

What model is it? Under the blower cap it says MOD 700, and I think the serial number is 133375. Made in 1975? When I was rebuilding the machine, someone wrote "Serviced, Sept 18, 1983" LOL. Been a while! But I cleaned the whole machine up, washed everything down, used Armour-all on the exterior plastic, cleaned the foam filter at the top. All spic-and-span now.

The machine says it was made in Canada, is FQ a Canadian company? All I need now to complete this machine is a power nozzle and power hose, power wands, and a dusting brush. Other than that, the machine is a beauty. Here it is pre-restoration. (seemed as if someone sucked up drywall dust with it... it was caked everywhere.)

Filter Queen is an American company.....

This model was built before Free Trade came about here in Canada. As a result, Filter Queen had a Canadian office & manufacturing plant in Toronto, Ontario. Just like other manufacturers did at the time- Hoover, Regina, Eureka & Iona(later Fantom) are perfect examples...

This would be a mid-70's model, as the Model 700 with the 'marble' applique on the tub came out in the early 80's. To date your Filter Queen, there are two places to look- one would be on the bottom of the caster set. However, since the plastic bottom of the caster set is NOTORIOUS for breaking on these Filter Queens, & may not be original to this vacuum, that would not be as accurate. A better place to look is the motor compartment. If you remove the white cone guard that the cone rests against, the brown plastic bottom of the motor housing that the pre-motor filter sits on will have the date there; It will be two numbers inset inside a circle. Those 2 numbers would be the last 2 digits of the year it was made. For instance, 77 would mean it a production year of 1977.

The latch is easily replaced by a local vac shop & shouldn't cost you any more than about $30 CDN.

@joe22: These 'brownie' models, as you put it, were also manufactured in Ohio for American customers too, not just Canada.

I have both the woodgrain & marble finish models of the Model 700 & LOVE THEM TO DEATH!! Amazing vacs!

Oh, I had one like that a few years ago. I really wish I hadn't given it to the local Thrift Shop. I will regret that for years.... or until I can find the grey Majestic from the late '80's I think.
