Today didnt fail. i went to our local vac shop. I saw in the corner behind a few junkers I odd shaped handle. It looked like a kirby but shorter. I reached back and what did I find but I like new Scott and Fetzer Vacuette Model C. I tried it on there long green shag carpet I can hear the fan going around. I asked the guy how much he told me I could have it because the bag wouldnt come off and the brush is frozen. He said that it wasnt worth anything so I could have it. I brought it home and gave it a head to toe cleaning. We losened the bag wtih a very big set of vise grips. But the brush is still stuck unmontionary. It works very well. I shined it up with MAAS and mothers plus that handy dandy steel wool. It looks pretty good not as good as a machine buff. Does anybody know how I can get the brushroll unstuck. I hope I can cause this vac is a great show piece and my most rarest vacuum for now. If I havnt put you to sleep I hope you enjoy the pictures of my new pride and joy.

The back is greenish but the front is like white. I dont get it. What model is this also. It says C but is like the 3 variation.

Stunning find & gift.

It appears that the brushroll is meant to be free-spinning - I see no drive belt pulley. So, soak the roll axle mounts with a degreaser and/or rust eater - it won't harm the Bakelite or metal or bearings and pry it out. Any screws holding it in place? De-rust 'em and use an impact screwdriver. Then it should be a simple matter top get at the bearings and axle and clean it up nice. Get 'er done.

Hey there, congrats.

I've been doing a bit of Vacuette work myself lately, so I can help you with the brush roll.

The brush roll is driven by the wheels that are next to it. It is gear driven. To remove it, just pull it straight out. There is nothing that is stopping it but friction. When you get it out, it will pretty much fall apart on you. You will see a gear on each end of the brush roll, and gearing onside the wheels. Your going to want to unstick the wheel, which is what I think is causing your problem.

I have repolished it and now it looks completly new. I will try what both of you said. Im trying to scrounge up enought money to go to the convention but i hope I will see you there. I cant wiat to take this with me. HTe bag is all origional but what was the actual color of the machines bag. I cant tell. Well I hope i can get the brushroll unstuck. Thanks again
 
To get a better idea of the bags original color, remove the metal slide from the top. Usually the color under the slide is more like the original color because it has not faded as much, if at all. I suspect that the cleaner was stored in a place where the front of the bag was exposed to light and the back was not.

Be sure to post pictures when you get done. I bet its going to look real nice.
 
U will see eric at the convention

Im sitll working on the brush. Ive polished it tonight its going to get waxed. IT looks like new right now. I just wana get the brush moving. If I cant I know someone at teh convention can help me. It picks up birdseed if I move it fast enough. i can see why they were a inovation to teh carpet sweeper. Oh Eric I will be scaning a picture from a sears robuck 1917 book of your sears quick clean or something like it.
 
I won't be at the convention, but you can wait on the pics until you have suprised everyone else. Just the fact that you are doing most of the work by hand is very impressive.

The Sears catalog will be very interesting. I didn't think these things were in production that early. Thanks.
