I hate Hoovers

I can say that in all the vacuums I've owned, I've never had a Hoover upright.

I currently have a really nice Spin-Scrub carpet cleaner and I've had many Hooover canisters I've absolutely hated.  Yes, I've hated Celebrities, Spirits, Dimensions,  Porta-powers, and those swivel tops that came out after the Spirit.  Wind Tunnel and what they were called before that.

I hated them all, especially the wonderful, ah I mean, terrible colors from the late 70s and 80s,  They inspired hatred, that's for sure.

Now I'm looking at Hoover floor washer so I can hate it too..... because speaking in republican contradictions is so fun.....

One of my all time favorite VINTAGE Hoover cleaners to use is the stunning Model 300 with its unique plug and bag decal. Doors may be closed for a reason, but she just needs to come out of the closet already. She's very old, her looks have faded, but if she thought she was going to just 'rest', that's not happening. Give her a few minutes to warm up, and she's sucking just like she did in Ohio. When she left North Canton.

These two Convertibles came to me from an old spinster woman who lived in a huge but old and unkempt house. She referred to it as "the palace" but I always thought it looked like a mortuary. These were given to me, so I took them apart to restore them.

One of them had dry bearings. As dry as Italian Pepper Cookies. Just squealed like Ned Beatty in Deliverance. Used my Hoover grease gun on them, and the bearings are no longer as dry as the cakes the old lady baked.

It's been two years since I got these machines. Don't know what happened to the old lady. I heard she died all alone in that house. I remember seeing a huge dumpster outside of her mausoleum one day. The old lady hasn't been seen since. I've looked for her obituary, but as she had no husband, no real family, I think she has faded like the Wicked Witch of the West "what a world, what a world". So sad.

I'm loving my Convertibles. I have enough bags I can change them after each use. And now they both run smooth and quiet.

I'm more of a Kirby fan, but...

I have a few Hoovers. Mostly they are 70s or 80s but my oldest is my profile namesake, a Hoover 300. It was the first vintage vacuum I ever bought. Cord was dry rotted and in awful shape but I saved the plug with enough room for a splice.
Beautiful vacs!

age difference:

The yellow model is older, it uses type C bags. The yellow one is the one that had bearings as dry as Irish Soda Bread. It was more cheesed up than the eggnog they were serving at the nursing home over Christmas.

The burnt orange one is newer but only by a year or so. It uses the type A bags that side down into the holder. Slides like a guest going down the staircase of hell.

John got me a new upper bearing for the orange one and now she dances on the carpet like an aging Rockette.

I think Hoover is like the Sony of vacuum cleaners - they have been around a long time and continuously put out well designed, reliable, quality vacuums. They have had some flops and weird ideas that didn't work, but overall a great company.

I agree. The Hoover Z was not their best hour. But overall, Hoover always got the rug clean. I think the model 150 was their finest work. If I had a model 150 Hoover and a model XXX Electrolux, I would be very happy.

Hoover/Electrolux

I have house remodeling/construction/decorating magazines from 50s & 60s and often if a storage closet is shown there will be a combination of Hoover & Electrolux.Sometimes a Mo 28 & XXX.My pair is Convertible & Mo G.

The colors of the late 50s to 80s appliances were just awesome.

They were art on wheels.

My first USEable vacuum, when I was like 12, was a used Hoover suitcase vac in yellow.

How anyone can have any interest or passion for any of the recent gray or black appliances.... I have no idea. They disgust me.

I recognize all of these fabulous color coordinated party goers.

However, what is this little number? Is this a Thompson or Silver King?
