I got my 1st Oreck!!!

Hi everybody! So yesterday after work I wanted to go back to the goodwill and see if the Oreck XL I first saw last Friday is still there, and luckily it’s still there! I tested out and it works but the brushroll didn’t spin so I asked for a bargain and the cashier gave me an offer for $11 instead of $21! It was actually $10.81 but since I was in a very good mood I throw in 19 cents for donation! When I got home I put a new belt that came with the vacuum at the bottom! And it works great now and I actually never had a Oreck in my collection before and since I have a XL upright, all I need is a handheld canister XL vacuum too! There’s a bit more information that came with this Oreck! Check it out!

Here’s information about the Oreck. The original was Laura Shroeder and she lived around Dallas, not sure anymore but she first purchased it in September 18, 1994! It also has the tune up service papers from 1995, 1996, and I think the last time it was tuned up was in 2003. And there’s also some time up receipts but they’re kinda hard to see. And free rental papers for the shampooer! I also believe she paid $377 at time! These papers aren’t going anywhere, this is actually history.

And forgot to mention on the title, I have great news! My Dial A Matic 1149 is useable again!!!!! I ordered a new motor gasket and FINALLY I found a new original handle screw that I’ve been inching and scratching for months!!! I took apart the motor again and the reason why the suction was very low because I accidentally placed the gasket on the right side instead of the left side and the foam piece was placed on accident on the bottom instead of the right side as well, the old motor gasket was slightly worn so I placed a new old stock gasket and sure I had a good feeling the suction was going to work and that i can finally can use it and take very good care of it for the next 40/50 years! This is actually my 2nd vacuum I fixed on my own after the Convertible High Performance!

Very cool that yours came with all the original paperwork! I have two of them, one is a "Gold Edition", and neither of mine did. I do believe with that paperwork you can still get warranty service and repairs on it, as Oreck doesn't care how many owners the vacuum has been through as long as it has the warranty documentation with it.

Also make scans and copy the thermal paper receipts, then keep all those papers in a manila folder and store it in a file cabinet or box. The receipts will fade over time, and with exposure to light, so it's good to have them preserved.

I personally like my Orecks. Maybe not the best deep cleaner but they are lightweight, fun to use and really groom the carpet nap.

Please do not bring that Oreck into an Oreck store assuming it has a warranty, unless you want to see your local dealers "WTF!?"-face.

All warranty (should be) to the original purchaser, but that one is long out of warranty.

Each model has a different length of warranty; names printed on the units mean little; the model number is needed to determine how long your warranty is.

All warranty requires original receipt now, per TTI. Exceptions made if the unit is under warranty and the dealer has reasonable proof AND is willing to "certify" this is writing to TTI.


All that said, it is still "serviceable" and should be taken care of as a lot of the parts on those older models (push-buttons on the lower tube connections, rather than the newer screw-on connections) are disappearing, save for salvaged/refurbished parts.



We had a similar unit growing up that was mainly used for cleaning the carpeted landing between two sets of stairs. I recall the cord barely reaching ...
