This Celebrity came into a local vacuum shop as a repair and the customer never came to pick it up. So, after 45 days the vacuum shop called me and said I could either take it or they were going to trash it. So of course I went and picked it up...

It runs good but has some wicked bearing noise when you turn it off when the motor is winding down. The vacuum shop said they couldn't repair it. Well, I'm sure I can do something with it. I'm just glad to have a Celebrity in my collection now.

Also...

While I was there, I spotted a Lux Model AF. When I asked them about it they said the motor was fried because an old lady sucked up water with it. Well they gave it to me and when I got it home and put a cord on it...it purrs like a kitten. There is nothing wrong with it. The bag cage and motor looks so clean..no dirt anywhere.

They also gave me a little pile of Lux hoses they said they had no use for. Some of them work great, but a few leak. I will rob parts off the ones that leak and keep the others for my collection.

I got the power nozzle in the matching green with it, but it's kinda nasty looking so I was embarassed to picture it. LOL. I will photo it once it's cleaned up. I'm not sure when I'll have time to do that though.

LIES!

I know for a fact, that Celebrities with bearing noise can be fixed. :-)

The upper and lower motor bearings were still available 6 months ago... even if they're now 'discontinued' from Hoover, I'm sure a vac store somewhere has some laying around.

E-mail me with the model number and I can get you part numbers; and possibly service instructions.

My first Celebrity was kind of a pain.. getting the nut that holds the fan on is the worst place. Now that I've rebuilt a few of them, it's old hat.

Here's a picture of Terry using my S3199.
It had a bad armature in it (totally toasted); so when I finally found another armature (took me maybe 6 months), I rebuilt the whole motor/machine.

If you take the bearings to a bearing shop they can probably match them and will cost you a fraction of the price the vac store charges. eg - Aeris charges about $10.00 for the bearing for the old 80 series motors but I can get them at Aklands for about $2.00. The companies themselves generally just buy them in bulk from the bearing companies anyway. You have to take in the bearings though so they can measure them to get the right match.

(re: what is the red and white vacuum in the lower right, some kind of Celebrity isn't it - Can I take a guess? Looks like a Eureka to me)

Power Nozzles...

No they are not all that deluxe. The lower end Celebrities of this model came with an "L" shaped power nozzle with no headlight.

Bearings...

Celebrity bearings are integrated into the upper and lower motor housings... The upper bearing is a needle bearing, like the one end on a Concept. The lower bearing, if memory serves me, is a ball bearing. I don't think it would be possible to just "pop" in a new bearing.

Logan- Yeah, I think that model should have come with the less deluxe powerhead.

Yup, Collector2; it's a Eureka Canister, from the collection of Jeff Parker. He got it NIB sometime last November/December.

Here's a better picture of it.
