Hello everyone! I had no idea this website existed until a few days ago and someone told me I'd find some luck here. My fiance and I recently moved into a new (to us) house over the summer. The previous owners had never been up in the attic, but told us the folks that built the house left a bunch of junk up there. Well, it WAS mostly junk. A lot of stuff from the early 70's that I found cool, but most of it was junk... EXCEPT. I found a very strange looking vacuum cleaner. After doing some research I found it to be a Haley's Comet vacuum. I posted to reddit to see if I could find any further information and someone said I had a pretty rare piece on my hands!

Now, it's still up there in the attic, but from other photos I've seen on this site and on google the outside is in VERY good condition. I also have at least one attachment for it. I will have to update with pictures and the condition once I take it down.

Anyway, someone suggested I post to this website as someone here may be interested in taking it off my hands.

If anyone knows what I should look for in terms of it's condition that would be super helpful! (I don't really know anything about vacuums!!)

The trouble with living in the attic for decades is that the rubber motor mounting, rubber seals, etc. all dry out and become stiff. Let's hope that is not the case.

The Comet was designed in the early 1960's to compete with Interstate Engineering's "Compact" (now Tri-Star) cleaner - which was sold door to door. The Comet had a cord rewinder and was made entirely out of aluminum (heavy). The rug tool was virtually worthless. The wands were upside down plastic Kirby wands. It had an attachment caddie that looked like a magazine rack. It is so rare because so few were sold.

There's a little poem under the bag lid:

Jet-Set Home,
The Haley's Comet Way!
