Well, what can I say? The last week really has been a vacuum filled one, and the funny thing is I wasn't even actively looking for any - but rather just happened to see the adverts on Gumtree whilst browsing other things.
This is a red Sebo X1.1 which was for sale at £10. Of course at that price there had to be an issue, and that was described in the listing as being "noisy". When I collected it the owner demonstrated the noise and it was indeed a very loud high pitched whistle. They thought it was an air leak somewhere but didn't investigate as she was glad for an excuse to replace it due to the weight. So in the boot it went and today I got around to investigating the noise...
I'll let you guess the cause.
Go on...
Well, if you guessed "blockage in the hose" then you would be absolutely correct.
Two pieces of card had partially blocked the hose which caused the high pitched whistle, but as it was still working adequately and didn't trigger the blockage light, they obviously didn't think that was the issue or didn't care to look.
It came with six spare genuine bags and one fitted. All that I need to buy is new filters and as the belt is toothed and not easy to replace, I'll not bother with that until it eventually snaps - if that ever happens in its lifetime.
I will of course give it a clean up and polish at some point, but for now it is working perfectly and for £10 I'm not complaining.
If anybody knows roughly what year this would be from I'd be grateful! She had owned it from new so in hindsight I should have asked, but for some reason it slipped my mind. I'm thinking it is circa 2010 but could be wrong.
With regards to my views on it - I am very impressed. I of course knew that these models were very good cleaners, but was slightly skeptical of the automatic height adjustment. After testing it thoroughly, it is actually alright! It takes a few seconds to get to the right height when changing pile, but once it gets there it is accurate and definitely easier than adjusting manually.
