I know, I always said that I'd never buy a Kirby, then I bought the Legend II...  And now, I have two!

Today I saw a Heritage on Gumtree and at the price, I couldn't let it go.  So, I went on a small road-trip to collect it and here it is, my second Kirby!

I don't know if the serial numbers give anything away with these (year of manufacture etc...), but I've included a picture of the Heritage's just in case.

Thanks guys, would that make it older than my Legend II then?  I'm not sure if there is a way of dating that one?

Preempting an answer to my above question, I checked the serial number of the Legend and it starts with "18902", which I suspect means it was made in February of 1989?

Jamie, courtesy of Charlie Lester's lovely site, here are the production dates for Kirbys. The first Kirby sold in the UK was the Classic Omega, so I've only included that model onwards.

Also, the G3 was delayed in the UK and the Legend 2 ran well into 1992. The G3 was only sold for around a year here, making it one of the rarer Kirbys and making the Legend 2 one of the most common.

1973-76 Classic Omega 1CB (Dark brown, dark brown pinstriped bag)
1976-79 Classic III 2CB (Candy-apple red, plaid bag)
1979-81 Tradition (Dark blue; intro of paper bag)
1981-84 Heritage (Gray/orange)
1984-89 Heritage II Legend (Charcoal/gray/red)
1989-90 Legend II (Dark rose-pink)
1990-93 Generation 3 (Alabaster)
1993-96 Generation 4 (Medium gray)
1996-99 Generation 5 (Maroon)
1999-01 Generation 6 (Black/Yellow)
2000 G 2000 (Charcoal Gray/Yellow)
2001 G 2001 (Charcoal Gray/Yellow)
2001-05 Ultimate G
2005-06 Ultimate G Diamond (Light Gray/Yellow)
2007-12 Sentria (Gray/Orange)
2012-13 Sentria II (Light Brown/Turquoise)

Thanks Chris!  So both my Legend II and Heritage were made in the first year of production - early models.  As much as they are a bit too heavy and cumbersome for daily use in my house (or any other average British dwelling), there is no doubt that they perform better than any other cleaner.

Well, almost any other cleaner...

I agree Jamie, they are very large for the smaller average British semi-detached and terraces, although if you have larger rooms, they can and do work well. The Legend 2 is actually one of more practical Kirby's, the G series and especially the Sentria's are enourmous.
