My new Avalir 2 did not come with a DVD either. The distributor I dealt with explained to me that Kirby will not produce DVDs anymore as the same material can be viewed on Kirby's website or on their YouTube channel.
They probaby felt that it was cost saving by not producing physical copies of their DVDs, and not only that but they figured whats the point in producing it, if its gonna end up on our youtube channel. I hope they came up with a DVD for this model (AVALIR2) and that they're going to upload it on their youtube channel soon. I say this because their youtube page isnt updated so I can assume they haven't worked on that site yet. Because lets be honest the "How to videos" suck and I don't mean that disrespectfully. With an acctual dvd we get to see how the machine and attachments/accessories are used in a typical household seetings. With the "how to videos" on kirby's youtube/ website theyre way to brief and dont give much of a description.
Congrats on your new Kirby! It’s beautiful! I’ve always wanted a brand new one myself, just need to be in a position where I can drop that kind of money without breaking a sweat!
Anyhoo, just two days ago I’ve come the closest I’ve ever been to owning a brand new Kirby... Long story short, I was visiting a friend about 40 miles north of me and the ride home was a series of accidents... So, I took surface streets and saw a pawn shop and just had this itch to stop inside. I’m glad I did. A shiny, beautiful Avalir (red trim) was right there...going by serial number it was only 7 months old - and - $104! I bought it immediately, took it home, inspected everything (perfect). I also have a Sentria 2, and used to also have Tradition 3CB (sold it to a friend, she just wouldn’t leave me alone about buying it). Sorry, I’m rambling on...
Anyway... I hope you are enjoying the Avalir 2! I’m going to try to attach a pic of my (almost new) find...
I have one of those in the box. That’s my favorite style model of the newer Kirby’s. I usually would never buy and new Kirby but couldn’t resist the deal I got.
But i'd like to know if:
-the Avalir 2's made in USA;
-the 1 1/4 in. accessories of competing brands can get connected to the model's hose;
-the model is better-made than a Miele C3 canister with the power-head modeled SEB 236 or a Simplicity Power Team canister with the Tandem Air nozzle;
-you people think that the blue and black on the current design as well as the red and black on the predecessor are a nice change from all that gray on the other modern models (like the Sentria and Sentria 2) that you're fed up with.
The Avalir2 is made in the US.Feel the Kirby is better made than the Simplicity Tandem air canister.For the price you do better with the Kirby.I like BOTH the Blue-Black and red-Black.Using these in turn.I have the Tandem air canister.The bags for the canister need to be a thicker material.Got a few holes in one of the bags when I replaced it.Had to vacuum out the Simplicity bag compartment(Wonder).If the tools of competing brands are really 1.25" they should fit the Kirby and vice versa.
ALL Kirby's have always been made in either Cleveland Ohio or Andrews Texas USA including the current Avalir models.
The Kirby is definitely better made than any Miele! All Kirby's are made mostly of High Grade Aircraft Aluminum whereas all Miele's are made of plastic. Kirby designs and builds all of its own motors which are made to last a lifetime with only needing to replace worn brushes every decade or so. There are many 50 year old (and older) Kirby's still in use today. How many Miele's do you think will still be in use 50 years from now?
Tolivac, thank you for the information although it appears that you're uncertain if a 1 1/4 tool could be used with a Kirby.
Thank you too, Sptyks, for the info. I can't be certain if a Miele C3 canister would remain operational 50 years from now but I'm reconsidering my opinion.
I own several Mieles and several Sebos along with my Kirbys-in all respect the plastic used in the Sebo and Miele is high quality and the fit of the parts is very precise-and gasketed.Granted the Kirby will outlast them-but those canisters are better built than others except the Lux canisters.I don't like using the Kirby as a "canister" use the others instead.The Lux Platinum has an adaptor so the Kirby tools can fit it!I haven't tried the combo floor carpet flip tool on the Kirby wand,though.My Kirby rules the WW carpets in my place.The 1.25" tools won't fit on the Miele or Sebo.Have to use their tools and the Tools from these won't fit each other.
