I picked this matching washer and dryer set up at a garage sale for $300. Best I can figure on the serial number for the dryer it was made in April 2004 going off of the chart I found online. Both run like a champ and have done well for their age. I retired my Maytag DG308 and Estate ETW4400WQ0 early as I loved the price and condition of this set.

Very nice, enjoy your new set! They certainly don't make them like they used to
Maytag and Whirlpool washers and driers have been more or less identical for a couple of decades. They are good equipment though. I like their commercial model washer and drier. Good airflow on the drier, sturdy construction and still pretty simple. Not quite as good as Speed Queen but darn close. $300 for that set is a fantastic deal. Well bought !

I have an old pre-Whirlpool Maytag washer drier set I need to refurbish. They look fantastic but they sat for ages in my parents home and then my garage and the various buttons and switches need to be removed and thoroughly cleaned because they are all gummed up from my mom's smoking.

I used to have a Maytag Neptune set, I liked them. They've both since been replaced by LG. My grandfather also had a Neptune stackable as well for 20 years with no issues until his cabin flooded and it accidentally got thrown out last year so the insurance paid for a new SQ SF7. He still has his old Performa dryer in his house that I like as well. Wish he had a matching washer for it because it would've been loads better than the one he has now, it's one of those Whirlpool built Maytags with the impeller that I hate using. Even his older Maytag top loader he had before was also a better machine. Whirlpool really shot themselves in the foot when they discontinued the Direct Drive top loaders and the Duet front loaders, they were in my opinion the best. I own a Kenmore 90 Series that's my all time favorite washer at least for top loaders and I had a Whirlpool Duet set from the last cabin which I thought was excellent. Nowadays I'm unimpressed with what Whirlpool is selling nowadays, the only product I could ever see myself buying from them today are their 27" or 29" dryers.

The washer I would love to have is an old Frigidaire Jet Cone. They clean clothes so well (they were really popular in laundromats) but not sure I could keep one running indefinitely. Parts and knowledge are out there and you see them being used by collectors but my wife treats appliances brutally and has no patience for babying vintage machinery. My old Maytags are going to go out in the new garage we are building where I can use them gently and take good care of them after I refurbish their control panels and get all the buttons and switches working right. When our current set in our home calls it quits I will either buy the commercial Maytag set or a set from Speed Queen. Speed Queen has the better drier but have heard some negative things about their washers so no decision yet.

I honestly wouldn't recommend the Maytag Commercial, those VMW style machines from Whirlpool have been problematic. They're not like the old DD machines they used to make. I think they also just recently got discontinued as well but I'm not sure. The SQ TC5/DC5 would be what I'd recommend unless you wouldn't mind the perfect wash action from the TR series which is probably where you're hearing the bad feedback from, I like them but I prefer the classic wash action since I've used both before. I wish the SQ TV2 was easier to get because I'd buy that over the TC5, it has a mechanical timer whereas the TC5 is electronic. The TV2 can only be sold to commercial applicants. Personally, I'm a front load user so I'd buy that over any of their top loaders.

I knew the stay away from the TR. The TC500 is mechanically and electrically identical to their commercial washer. The commercial washer has a slightly larger exterior body to support the coin box. No other difference. That is what I would buy.

So had I been washing that ketchup stained towel I would have used hot water, Kirkland powdered laundry detergent and Clorox bleach. I also would have hand washed it with Zote before putting it in the wash. But I guess I am old school that way.

I hate front load washers with a passion. Hate everything about them. The Navy loves to put them in our Navy Lodges and Gateway Inns we are required to use as much as possible when on official travel ( instead of a commercial hotel ). They are free to use, which is nice, but they take a lot longer to do a load than top loaders ( every second I have to baby sit my laundry in the laundry room is torture ) and if you forget something there is no tossing something in after the machine has begun to run like you can with a top loader.

There's a few commercial models they currently have available. The mechanical, electronic, and e-mech. The e-mechs are just like the coin box models. The mechanicals and electronics are homestyle like the residential models with bigger tubs, just with less features and warranty that doesn't include the labor. Personally, I'd rather have one of the commercial models if I had to have a top loader preferably the TV2 aka mechanical. I've already heard enough board issues on the electronic panels where I wouldn't feel comfortable owning one but would still take one over the TC5. But in all of honesty, there's no brand new top loader I'd get on the market today. Even though I think SQ makes the last good ones, I have no interest. They're just WAY too expensive for what they are. I'd rather buy a LG front loader for half the price off. I like front loaders because I find they do a better job for my laundry with less water, electricity, detergent, and lint removal. I also like they have more turnovers, bigger capacity, and are more delicate. I have a Kenmore 90 Series arguably the best top loader ever made and a LG front loader, I like the LG better in my opinion. I once lived at a place where there were two SQ classic top loaders and a Whirlpool Duet side by side, I also liked the Duet better. I can only think of one front loader I didn't had a good experience with at the other place I lived at and I will say that I liked using the top loader there better. Anyways, I can see why commercial businesses are moving away from top loaders. My newest local laundromat has all Huebsch (Speed Queen) front loaders, can easily put a king size comforter in one of the machines. And the place I volunteer at once a week to do laundry also has all UniMac (Speed Queen) front loaders, fantastic machines.

We have an LG drier. It's in our storage unit. We don't like it. Way more complicated than we need. Doesn't like our vent either ( it goes through the attic to a roof top vent ). Shuts off early, flashes a warning light. Vent is clean. Just not a fan of overly complex stuff. Too much electronics, too many useless to us "features". Something like a TV-2 would be all we need. I just want something simple and durable that cleans clothes. Funny the Speed Queen people told me the TC500 had the same mechanicals as their commercial top loaders. No difference. When I use a hotel laundromat if there are top loader and side loader washers I always choose the top loader. I want to get my clothes clean and get done. The side loaders always do this thing for a good ten minutes at the end of the cycle after the final spin where the drum rotates a few turns one way, sits for a minute, then rotates a few turns the other direction. Then sits there again. Repeat over and over for ages it seems. And you can't open the door and put your stuff in the drier. Frustrating to the max ! The next washer drier set will either be Speed Queen TC/DC combo ( or commercial models if I can finagle it ) or a set of Maytag commercial washer drier.

I have a matching LG dryer and I can care less about it. Also has a issue with the flow sensor despite having a clean vent and not much lint in the trap. And sometimes it doesn't get everything else dry. I do like the wrinkle care and steam feature but I really don't use anything else on it. My only regret was not getting the gas version. If I had to replace it, this time I'd just get a basic Whirlpool 27" or 29" dryer unless if I find a used basic SQ at a reasonable deal. It's a good dryer overall but I don't think I'd get another LG again, just isn't worth the asking price. The TC5 is definitely electronic and so is the DC5. I thought at first the electronic SQs' were the way to go until I've been noticing the problems not to mention how much more expensive it is to replace the electronic parts like the panels for example. I prefer to keep it simple so that's why I'd rather take a commercial model over the TC5. Nonetheless, I'd still take a TC5 over the Maytag Commercial. I just found out today over on the sister site that Whirlpool won't take anything back once it's been used. I wouldn't be surprised if Whirlpool falls under the same fate as the original Maytag company.
