I bought a Kirby 510 today.

That's a nice looking machine.

The fact that it still has it's original cord is a huge bonus. I have a 508 with a replacement cord that doesn't have the proper round end fitting. I've been keeping an eye out for the correct one for years, but so far no luck. They're kind of dusty so it's hard to tell, but it looks like you may have the right wheels as well, and the correct gray bumper strip is yet another added bonus. That should make your restoration a bit easier. All told it looks like a very nice find. Be sure to share some photos with us when you've had a chance to spruce it up.

Sam,

Your Kirby 510 was a great find--congrats! Being in Rochester, MN it may be that the sweeper belonged to a doctor's household and got excellent care.

I'm in Mankato/North Mankato and just saw a Kirby floor polisher--in the original box--at a thrift store here. Don't remember the price--although it likely wasn't that much. Judging by the dial and matching Kirby logo, it's at least from the same era if not the same year. I'm not an expert, but it seems to be in decent shape. Let me know soon if you want me to purchase it for you; There may be other collectors around the area as another local thrift store had a Kirby Classic that didn't last long on the floor.

Looks like you got an easy polish job too! That should come up lovely, I can't wait for the after pictures!

I found this utensil set at savers. I'm wondering if the Kirby salesperson gave it to the original owner of the 510 that I bought. They both have to same old Kirby logo. Are there any others like this?

So I got around to giving this Kirby the Spa treatment today. I also examined the info plate and found out that it was rebuilt in 1970. I'm having trouble trying to put the spring back into the safety switch. How do I get it back in?

Kirby utensil

I found a steak knife with yellow plastic handle with the round Kirby logo stampted on.Many companies would market similar products to DTD companies to give away for demos or referals.Never saw the above set.Great item to go with your Kirby. In recent years some salesmen here would hand the customer a 2 litre soft drink or roll of paper towels when they come to the door. The customer reaching for something they use or need becomes the first step of the demo and then often the sale.

Ben I can't thank you enough for the information that you have given me. I gave this machine the a good cleaning and now just have to shine it up. This is my first metal fan Kirby that I own, so hearing sand and other things hit the fan is very satisfying for some reason.
