Hi all,
It's been a little while since I have done one of my before/after threads, hasn't it? I'm about to change that.
Today I visited one of the local vacuum shops with the aim of finding some interesting vacuums in their group of trade-ins. I walked away $20 lighter but two Dysons heavier! My sister has been in the market for a vacuum (she said absolutely no bags), so I thought she might like one of these post-refurb. Well, she ended up wanting my red DC24 instead of either of them. Off it went to its new owner.
The UP13 has powerhead with a bad motor and is missing its attachment holder but is in otherwise nice condition. Considering the fragility Dyson's matte finish, I was actually surprised to find that the cyclone pack has not even a scratch! Clearly, someone once cared for this machine.
The UP14 works like a charm, too. This Dyson has some scratches on its cyclone pack and smells a bit like a dog, but its powerhead motor actually works and it came with an attachment holder. The only thing wrong with this cleaner mechanically is that the repairman took its brush roll to fix another customer's vacuum.
NOTE: In the photo, you will see that the two powerheads have been swapped for testing purposes.
I think you all can see where I am going with this. One of these Dysons is going to get a fully functional powerhead and attachment caddy. Since I already have a UP14 Animal + Allergy and since the UP13 is the marginally more "pretty" find, I'm thinking it will be the lucky winner and take the place of the DC24 in my collection.
What will become of the UP14 Animal? Since it'll be lacking a decent powerhead, I think I will dissect it to save some spares for my better UP14 while taking a good peek at its innards. Even though this vacuum is used, I don't expect to find anything in line with the skepticism (hysteria?) about how terrible the Cinetic upright is.
Once life settles down a bit more, I'll come back to share not only the restoration of the UP13's shine, but also the breakdown of the UP14. Should be fun!
