So, the other day, I went to pick up my Birthday Gift. It was an older Maytag Self Propelled Windtunnel. I got a new belt for it since the old one was about to tear. The suction on it was really strong when I turned it on. It was also quiet despite what a a lot of collectors say..

I have a blue anniversary self-propelled, and a black non-self rebelled. They are strong cleaners.

Just tried it.

The self propelled works perfectly on it! The suction was so strong, it sorta stuck to the carpet. But it cleans great and is very good!

The Maytag made versions had less whiny high pitched motors than the TTI ones, so it probably is quieter.

Like all Maytag Windtunnels, it has powerful suction. I may try getting a turbo tool for it so I can use it one the stairs. I pretty much have 4 Hoovers which was a goal of mine since I considered getting it..

I own a Hoover wind tunnel S.P.

I own a Hoover wind tunnel self propelled from 2000 and boy that self propelled will drag you I'd say.

I’m guessing yours is a S.P Windtunnel Premium. Mine’s a S.P Windtunnel Ultra.

The Windtunnels have excellent agitation and brushroll design. They can fluff matted down weatherbeaten rugs that sat outside for months like it was brand new.

Belated Happy Birthday! Can you tell me the years that Maytag made the Windtunnel

vacuums? Mine is model U5462-900 Deluxe, non self-propelled and glad. Heavy enough

as it is! 2000-ish? Made in USA. Thanks, Billy

So...

Maytag made the Windtunnels from 1996-2007 with the Original WIndtunnel Being released around 1996. The First Self Propelled version was during 1998. In 2000, they released the Windtunnel Twin Chamber and a year later Hoover Updated the Self Propelled and Twin Chamber Windtunnels to have a Turbine Tool. The Self Propelled Bagless was released in 2002 along with the WIndutnnel Dual V. 2006 was when they released and revised the V2 into the Savvy and the Windutnnel 2 was released.

Thanks I'll just have to look up the model number in hopes that a clue as to the date of manufacture is mentioned. I believe it's older than the twin chamber I used to have.

Your Windtunnel was made in November of 2001, a month after mine acording to the First Four Digits.

Thanks Victor, I got it in '03, the year your parents married! I'm going to check to see if I can install a new roller or repack the bearings soon. Nothing has gone

wrong with this machine ever. Only complaint is the "easy open" dust bin is hard to open, but no worries, still a favorite. Enjoy the summer! Billy

I'm glad you are getting an original to that machine. Years ago I put a turbo tool that went to another less powerful machine, on the hose of a strong canister vac

I don't remember the make. It started screeching as it revved up and started to
vibrate violently and before I could shut the machine off, the turbo tool literally

exploded all over my room. I got hit with pieces of plastic. I've never heard of
that happening to anyone.It looked like I ran the car over it! Who knew?

Oh, that’s dangerous.

That actually happened to many people with Dirt Devil Turbo Tools and those eventually got recalled back in 2008.

Exploding turbo tool

Oh wow, I bet my turbo tool was most likely a dirt devil. It was a clear yellow and green model. I wonder if we should post a warning about that recall since there are

more than a few new members here on the younger side,late teens and 20 something, who collect Dirt Devil anything and might not be aware of the recall. I know there's

probably more than a few of the offending turbo tools still out there since a lot of people didn't get the notice or had already moved on to another cleaner. I hope

nobody else gets hurt because the possibility is very real.

Think there should be a post about this recall since I agree that there still could be a number of offending Turbine Tools in the hands of some collectors. There was a thread, but that was long ago. Luckily, I don’t have one these and my turbo tools have never exploded. I’m guessing Dirt Devil no longer offers repair kits for them and the solution now is to get a replacement.
