How to reinstall bellow on Hoover Model 1030

I have a strong running Model 1030. Today I was replacing a Type A bag to it and the bellow came off the metal housing. I cannot for the life of me figure out how to get it back on. I have included 2 pics of the two parts in question. They came apart before I had a chance to see how they were attached to each other. The rubber of the bellow seems way too tight at this point over the metal housing. Can anyone assist with what seems like should be a simple task. Thanks for any help! Jim

For one...

You need the metal ring that goes in the bellows, along with rubber cement. The ring should be in the bellows on the edge. If its missing you can probably make a new one. Just shove the bellows end in the adapter and line it up with the little wall in the bellows. Put rubber cement on the edges and put in the bellow ring.

There is no ring that goes in the bellows on a Convertible. The bellows go around that oval shaped plastic piece. The bag will hold it on.

Okay, if there is no metal ring, then I'm assuming I will just need to clean those two surfaces, apply rubber cement, mate them together and I'll be good to go? If so, thanks a bunch!

Don't use rubber cement. The bellows are made to be held on with the outer bag. I have never seen one that wasn't held on that way. Just clean them first.

I was thinking of the 60 series type bags...

Sorry I was thinking of those 60-series hoovers like the 61, 63 etc. There is no ring. But there is a rubber cement type stuff on those to seal it in all my hoovers. its always yellow like a rubber band color, and peals off quite easily. half the times theres barely a trace of it. It seems like the closest thing is rubber cement. Either way, rubber cement will help maintain a better seal. For some reason my model 61s outer bag always wants to blow off because the ring is abscent and there is a poor seal between the bellows and flange. I suggest rubber cement. it fixed that problem.

Convertible bag assembly

First slide the latch toward handle release pedal to remove oval connector from vac.Rubber parts will fit easier if warmed with hair dryer,direct sun,etc.Only later Convertibles had the 2 rubber tabs molded onto bellows to be held when bag ring screw was tightened.
