How to open a Vita-Vac

On Saturday when I made my weekly visit to Greenville Sew & Vac looking for vacuums-Mike came up with a Vita-Vac in his trade in pile-someone traded it in for a Sebo.The Vita-Vac does't run.the cord has been repaired in several places-The motor turns freely by probing the fan with a long screwdriver thru the bottom of the bag cage.Question--How does one remove the back of the canister housing to get at where the cord connects and to further check the switch and motor?Just can't see how to get the beast apart for checking and cord replacement.The power nozzle runs fine.Overall the machine is in pretty good shape-no major dings or such.Just want to get it going.there is no burnt smell at the back,either.As you would know-the machine is same sort of thing a an Air-Way.Beleive Air-Way made these for the Vita-Mix folks.It has a pink Filtrete bag inside it marked "Vita-Vac".The bag is unused.

I have seen an Airway taken apart and it is really easy. You just need to take off the nuts on the bottom of the motor where the exhaust is. Those nuts hold on the rails that run up the side and the front to hold it upright. The screws that are attached to the nuts are really long and extend way up into the body. Once you get the nuts off, the bottom part of the body will now come off the upper part of the body revealing the motor and you can then look at the cord connection. I hope that all made sense.

Will the same method apply to my Air-Way 66? Mine shoots carbon dust everywhere.

Thanks KcKirby-will try taking the nuts off the back part that hold the rear cord hook on.Mike at the vac place was baffled about it.Figuring it had to do with those nuts on the back part.Next is getting a wrench on them to get them off.I am betting the cord is bad-from all of the mended places on it.Anything from where it was run over with the power nozzle-or in one part looks like a dog or something chewed on the cord.hope it wasn't plugged in at the time!
