How to (kind of) make a vacuum repair kit

this kit i take with me every time i go to my uncle's vacuum shop and i use this at the house
in it i keep
- electrical tape
- a multitool
- a Phillips screwdriver(both big and mini)
- a pair of scissors
- a x-acto knife(for cutting crud of a brushroll)
- a list of serial numbers from my vacuums that are not stored in the storage room

but i got most of my vacuums from him (the lux 2100 and lux XXX,hoover handivac,hoover portapower)

Sometimes has to use dental tools and surgical tools to get the right springs and suck in place.

A SHARP LARGE pair of scissors is best for cutting thread and hair from brushrolls-or use one of those "Hook" shaped knives to do it-lineolium knives work well too.Also a clean wire bush is good to have --learned from an old Kirby tech its good to clean nasty dirty brushrolls-with the machine on and hairs cut away-run the brush gently over the spinning roll to clean away the crud-brush roll then looks like new!Crud loosened by the wire brush goes into the bag.And oh yes and couple straight blade screwdrivers should be in the toolkit.Nowadays-"Torx" screwdrivers too.

A small tackle box helps.

You have a decent starting point but not enough tools to fix all the machines you will see in a vac shop. I would say that the following things are in order.

1. Number 1 and 2 size Phillips drivers
2. A Torx (star) driver set
3. Vice grips (very handy for Convertible machines)
4. Wire brushes
5. Pliers
6. Straight head screwdrivers of multiple sizes
7. Electrical tape/Heat Shrink Tubing
8. Wire nuts
9. HIGH QUALITY wire stripper
10. Utility knife
11. Socket Set Metric and Standard
12. 3 in 1 MOTOR OIL IN THE BLUE CAN!
13. Inexpensive Multi-Meter
14. Armature Stone, and Carbon Brush Setters
15. Wrench set Metric and Standard
16. Can of PlioBond (get this from Steel City on your uncles next part order)

This is a quick tackle box full of goodies to fix 99% of anything out there! I like to keep a pocket screwdriver with me wherever I go as well.

Your list is helpful for parts that are not in the storage facility. Make a spreadsheet on your computer for inventory reasons. It will help you to remember what is missing from the machines already, etc.

dont forget an extendable magnetic pick up tool...a tru friend indeed.
my douglas vac has a 2amp pn motor w a fan on it....not much in suction...never thought id see that...its gs elctric.
kinda let down about it...have motor out..debating on putting another motor in or not.
hows the suction on yours and is your motor like mine?

mine has great suction and it has a 3 Amp motor

what type bags you got....pics? i have a cloth bag. kinda worn out tho....is your motor a power nzl type...or a reg looking vac motor?

mine takes a hoover type G and its a regular motor

i like mine so i guess ill drop in another motor..that one thats in it now is the pits...i have a riccar supra quick 750w 4in motor to drop in it....i got the vac at the thrift store for a 1.60 i believe.
