How to fix Dyson mini turbine head?

I purchased a lot of 3 attachments off of eBay for my Dyson DC17 Animal: the mini turbine head, low reach floor tool and Zorb groomer. They arrived yesterday, having been very well packed in a shoe box via UPS.

All of these attachments are in great shape. However, the mini turbine head doesn't work properly; it spins a lot slower than it should, likely because of the previous owner having a dog. The brush slows down significantly when pressed onto a surface.

I removed the soleplate, and found some dog hair stuck in the rubber piece near the intake. I even dismantled the tool to try and see what's wrong with it, but couldn't figure anything out.

So my question is, how do I make this turbine head spin freely again? I had the exact same one, but in purple, with my old Dyson DC07. I contacted the seller about this issue, but they haven't responded yet. I wonder if I have to lubricate any bearings on the tool?

Are you sure that the gauze grill on the 'on/off' control is free of fluff? Use a suction hose on the gauze. Reversed airflow might help.


Are you sure that this nozzle is made for that machine?

I had a DC14 with that style of turbo nozzle. I also had a DC15 with an apparently identically coloured nozzle. They were not identical.

There was something about the gearing in one of the turbo nozzles, which caused it to spin even faster on the wrong machine.

Yes, the grille on the "on/off" plunger is free of fluff. I even vacuumed it off using my Hoover stick vac, and no fluff came out.

Yes, this nozzle is made for the DC17, which is what the eBay listing said.

I had a DC07 with that same nozzle, but in purple, and it spun very fast when used with that machine. I couldn't get it to slow down when touched to any surface.

Suction power

Ah - there is a substantial difference between the DC07 and the DC17.

The DC17 generates about 220 air watts.

The DC07 apparently is listed at 280 air watts. But I am pretty sure that the original version of the DC07 (with the complicated vortex finders) could generate up to 330 air watts.


Similarly, DC14 is roughly 280 air watts.
DC15 is apparently 220 air watts.

That might explain my experience of the 'identical' turbo nozzles... the DC15 one was obviously equipped with a different gearing, which when used on the DC14 machine, went into overdrive.
