how to change a dyosn belt

I believe someone on this forum told me it was possible for the average person to change a belt on the Dyson though the company has made it difficult on purpose.

Can anyone give me instructions on how to get far enough into the machine to do that? Where to buy a Dyson belt?

My friends Bissell CearView which I look down on as a vacuum snob outperformed my Dyson DC14... I ate humble pie that night. Suction and airflow are fine, so the only thing I can imagine is that the belt isn't tight enough to spin the brushroll at the right speed. When I push the machine forward too fast while it's running, I hear a loose rattling sound.

Any advice would be greatly appreciated!

Just kidding.. I know you love your Dyson...as you should...

It seems like i remember reading a thread where it was described as being very difficult and it was suggested to take it in to a shop. The shop I use will not even service them due to the diffuculty of trying to work on them. He doesn't even stock parts as I was looking for a belt for my mothers Dyson. He said I would have to order it from Great Britain! Hers was not picking up as it should have been either and we found out that the cyclone cones in the top of the machine were all TIGHTLY CLOGGED with debris and dust. My dad and I had to basically disassemble the whole machine and blow it out with an air compressor. Seems like it's going to be an annual job to keep it in tip top shape performance- wise. They do check/clean/replace the filters as needed on it as they should also. Seems like I remember her brush-roll comb being loose as well. I assumed it was so it could kind of automatically adjust to different floor types/heights..

I am no Dyson expert though, these are just my observations. Generally, the vacuum is very interesting concept-wise, but i just HAVE TO HAVE my big ballooning Kirby Bags... I know, I know... FREEEEEK!!!!

No... you and I share the opinion about the ballooning Kirby bags.... but I still had to have a Dyson!

Shanonabc is the one who said in another thread that Dyson belts can be replaced at home... maybe he'll see this thread. But, maybe he wasn't talking about on US machines.

Do I need to buy a whole new clutch assembly? How can I be sure the belts are the problem?

You can get all the little dyson parts from Star for Parts now. brush rolls belts switches etc. If anyone needs anything let me know as I have an account with Star. Just don't ask me how to install anything as I have never replaced anything on a dyson including my own.

I am pretty sure I said that the only ones that could have the belt change were the ones without a clutch e.g. DC01, DC04 WOC, DC04 ConstantMax, DC07 without the clutch and thats about it... Email me for more info at [email protected]

I did find very detailed instructions on how to replace the belt... you have to buy a special tool and I think there are about 18 steps. Not an easy process. I've kind of determined that my belt is fine, the Dyson just didn't live up to the hype as I was expecting it to.

According to Dyson over here only the motor-clutch belt is replaceable- we can however get a pattern/bojack set of both.

Not tried myself but am told its a right b***ard of a job tho!!

If theres a rattle...

That to me would indicate a clutch problem- contact Dyson if its under warranty or replace the clutch!

That was the HEPA filter... Not the belt...
