I understand completely- we had a Miele White Star that had a turbo brush, and we quickly figured out that we needed to get the power nozzle. The dealer wanted $250 more for it! We put the White Star on eBay and got something else. But maybe, just maybe, you'll run across one in a thrift store, or one that needs a repair, priced cheap. People who work in thrift stores often do not know one vacuum from another, so they'll price a Miele like they would a Kenmore.
Stranger things have happened. I know someone who has a Rolex Submariner he bought in a thrift for $1. Since it did not run, the people in the thrift store assumed it was fake, and priced it accordingly. My friend thought it was fake, too, but he bought it for a laugh. When he took it in for a battery to see if he could get it running again, the watch guy looked at him like he was crazy- "Rolexes aren't battery watches!" My friend explained it was a fake, and the watch guy said, "Oh, no it's not, either!" My friend nearly passed out. He got it cleaned and it works like a champ- nobody can figure out how it got donated to a thrift store, but stuff like that happens. So maybe it will happen with you.
Just stay focussed on what you want, and it will happen, sooner or later. Best of luck!
