How many vintage Canadian Electroluxes are among us?

I went Elux hunting the other day

at the Aerus/Electrolux dealer in Windsor, where I'd been lucky enough to score my 88 a few years back. It had come in as a trade in for a newer machine, and was stuffed in back with their junk and parts.
This time a new manager pounced on me as I walked in the door, and the repairman couldn't be bothered to even look in the back for any more machines. Sigh; the hunt continues.

In response to John/luxlife's question, the after filter for these Canadian machines is the same, square felt-like filter used in the American "E" series Luxes, which in Windsor at least, are still available.

I must say that I'd love to find a hassock myself, although I'd need to bring a clean pair of trousers to the sale if I found one! Wink, wink, nudge, nudge!

CANADIAN MODEL 89

I sold this model in 1969 and I think it is still the best vacuum that Electrolux made.
These machines are very quiet, good suction and won't tip over.
Why can't they make stuff that good any mode? I have two of them now and I am looking for an original green hose for them. I also need a green cord.
Someone had cut part of the cord off and it is about 1/2 the length it should be.

I own a model 86 electrolux in the process of figuring why it wont turn on whit a new motor and factory switch . Ill check my wires .

I have a 89 (non running), I just sold a running 89 and one of my friend is supposed to bring me two 88s (red) , I'm anxious to see in what condition they are.

Model 89 is the best

I don't have or ever had an American electrolux but I have four Canadian model 89's and I think they are the best vacuum that Electrolux made,in any year
As far as I am concerned the model 89 is the best vacuum made and it's too bad they don't make products like this any more.
I use to sell the model 89 door to door.

They are very quiet,don't tip over and the suction is very good

I've had my '89 for about 17 years. Use it every day for cleaning in front of the litter boxes in the utility room.

The original hose came with the '89 when I bought it on Ebay. Although physically it is in great shape, it leaks like a sieve so not practical to use. I bought another original '89 hose that I found on Ebay about 15 years ago. I removed the machine end off that hose. I then bought the vinyl hose on Ebay but it had the machine end that was for a plastic body Lux. I removed that end coupling and attached the '89 coupling. Works like a charm.

Countryguy, how do you go about changing the hose ends? I thought that was not possible?

I have a vinyl hose for the plastic body which I would like to use on the older metal body..

It is possible with some work I remember seeing a post on here that gave the details on how to do it. I'll have to look in the archives to see if I can find it. Basically the collar where the hose end goes into the connector is removed so that the hose can be separated from the connector. Then I cut the wires, connected them with the wires on the new hose end, insert the hose into the hose end and attach the connector.

My plastic body ap200 hose does not stay on properly on the coupling for my lux 89 why it tape over any help ty.coupling a bit loose ty.

I am extremely curious now.. I have a genuine oem vinyl hose that I would sacrifice for the Golden Jubilee.

I don't know how the end comes off the cloth hose (maybe it twists?) but on that vinyl hose the metal sleeve comes off (with a lot of prying) and if I remember correctly the plastic separates into 2 parts to expose the wiring.

yes but i put my hose to gether again wires and all but the palstic wont stay together no more the plastic housing.

I see that most of the Americans believe that the Canadian model 89 is more powerful than the American models.
I tend to agree.. I have five model 89s and two sets are complete.
I like them because they''ARE'' more powerful, quieted and don't tip over.
It is my opinion that the model 89 is the best vacuum cleaner made.

I still have an <span class="aCOpRe">Elux-o-matic ZB</span>89 with three different power nozzles, a Z54 (as seen above) and a ZB30. I also have a couple of the "Junior Polishers" and later "Turb-O-Tools."

Have you ever seen (or come across) a hunter green coloured one?
I recently picked one up off of Kijiji (please see my photos).
I'm not 100% sure, but I am 98% sure that it's Electrolux because it does have a date stamped on the inside of the top lid.

Date stamp reads: APR 10 1962

Hey Chad:

Yes the egg shell /green one is Electrolux - its one of the ones I am missing. It was available from 1957 to 1963 along with plain eggshell (I have), Eggshell/Red (I have), Beige/Brown (also called Ginger - I have) and Grey/Wine (I am missing).
