Hello there,
I have a fun game to play. How many door to door vacuums can you think of? I want a list of every vacuum sold door to door from the beginning to now. No repeats and you CAN list vacuums that were called one thing and then changed names (example, Rexair- Rainbow. That I'll count as two different machines.

okay, i'll start
Water Matic

Ok, here's my list.....

Kirby, Fairfax, Compact, Tri-Star, Filter Queen, Rexair, Rainbow, Hyla,Vortech Force, Air-Storm, Electro Hygiene. I don't know if you would call Hoover a door to door vacuum but they started out being sold that way as vacuum shops as we know them today didn't exist in the real early days of vacuums.

How many can you guess?

My parents bought both their 66 Air-Way and many years later their 88 Air-Way from door-to-door salesmen. My aunt bought her early 1950's Singer upright and hand cleaner from a home demonstration and traded her mother's 1935 Hoover in on the deal.

Ok - how about some more essoteric ones from the 50's like President, Silovac and Fillery (all sold by state vacuum stores who had salesmen going door to door as well as the stores). My grandmothers first vacuum was a President (which I still have and it looks like new) that she bought from the guy that was the bus driver on their route. He moonlighted as a salesman for the State Vacuum store.

A few others sold here included Ruton, Ford, Arrow Electro and Watermatic.

Well, you guys have pretty well covered it. About the only ones I can think to add to what's already listed are Galaxy, Electro-Grand (both of these were made by Royal and sold through the Electro-Hygiene franchise), and last but not least, Silver King and Silver Knight.

LOL - just a FYI - Filter Magic is the name of the filter used on the Watermatic - not the vacuum (billed as a Watermatic with Filter Matic Filtration)

How about "Speedy Vac"

Friends next door purchased theirs door to door. It was a great little canister, similar to the Apex cylinder....the only time it was used, was to clean the oil burner in the kitchen. And it survived....got rid of that vacuum a long time ago...wish I had it now.
