Kyle, Davis, and I had our mini meet and we got together mine nad Kyles 90's Dirt Devils and took a picture. One of the MVPs is his, along with a Roommate I am giving to him, that he gave me a long time ago. He also gave me the Dirt Devil Plus. Ever seen 3 Dirt Devil Roommates together?

thats awesome!!!

i wish dirt devil still made vacs like this...my favorites are the ultra mvp, mvp, and broom vac i remember using them at my parents' friends houses and loving them. are the RoomMates miele art-esque?

Wow, some of those Dirt Devils I haven't seen in quite some time. Even on eBay, finding a Dirt Devil of that era is becoming increasingly difficult because of the flimsy build quality. It's like trying to find a Regina Housekeeper in good running condition. You've got a nice collection there. I don't see a Dirt Devil Upright Plus XF though lol ;-)

Kyle has the other plus, and we are going to try to get it running SOMETIME. I also have a Dirt Devil Lite at my grandma's, and Kyle has some more as well.

I also like them and wish Dirt Devil still made machines like that. Out of those the, the Broom Vac is my favorite.... I have the Broom Vac and the Hand Vac. I too have noticed it's almost impossible to find one on Ebay, especially a Broom Vac, though they seem to be more common than the others. The Ultra MVP is missing the Edge Wedge! I do see the regular MVP from time to time in thrift stores.... I always pass on them because I'm not crazy about hard bodied vacs (save the s/p w/t), and they always have broken handle releases, and broken, taped up bag doors and handles.

We had the second one in from the left when I was growing up. The uncle that raised me gave it to my aunt for Christmas one year (rednecks).... she was offended, but I asked for vacuum every year and never got one because they didn't want to encourage me! It was between our Singer System and our maroon soft bagged Eureka Bravo..... after using the Dirt Devil for so long, that Eureka Bravo felt like a top notch machine! I remember we used it to clean the church and the as I was doing the sanctuary, the snooty minister's wife walked in just as the back wheel flew off. She pulled her glasses down, looked over them, and said in a high pitched tone, "Well what do you expect with a name like dirt 'devil'?" I'll never forget that! That was our second one, the first one stopped turning on within a month so we exchanged it (first one had a red switch, second one had a gray one). On the second one, the wheels came off (then it started burning belts), the attachment clips came off, and the hose/floor lever snapped off, poor thing!

Looks like almost a complete collection there minus the can vacs and triangle stick vac. I think I have the little paper that came with those that has the 90's line up on one side and the Royal line up on the other. We got one with ours, and I wanted all the Royals so bad, I just couldn't stand it. I always pictured living in a big mansion and using those to clean it up.... and I wanted them to be alive like the vacuum on Brave Little Toaster. I still want my vacuums to be alive.... I guess they are in a way when the are plugged in :o) Didn't Dirt Devil also make one like the soft bagged one on the right side called the Lite, that didn't come with attachments? I remember many some of those came in hunter green or blue or maroon as well.

Now, if anyone ever sees a Cruiser on Ebay, (the more modern, but still rare power drive chrome and blue model), please let me know!

the first dirt devils were good vacs, then the became an entry level vac, sad

I had a lite plus as a child, that machine itself almost caught fire, however I liked it because it was powerful and the bag. I bought one on ebay a couple of years ago and dont have it anymore, although I do have 2 early version hand vacs, a can vac, a broom vac and 2 MVP/Deluxe models. I really miss these machines because they were pretty darn good at grooming a carpet and giving it a good deep cleaning for the money

I have never really been a fan of Dirt Devil,
but I remember when my aunt got a Dirt Devil Deluxe sometime in 1993, If I recall correctly they were new or fairly new on the market. she used it at home for 3 or 4 years and then took it to her flower shop where it was used and abused until late 2004, the switch was bad and had a toggle switch bolted on it as a replacement, handle release was broken, bag door was taped together, hood slightly warped, hose taped in several spots/ Its death came because of being in 2 feet of water from a flood.

My mothers friend had a nephew who worked for Dirt Devil when they were still made in the USA, he would always send family new dirt devils frequently. Mothers friend had a MVP, Ultra MVP, and the very first Dirt Devil Vision, the hand vac and the stick broom. she had a tri level so there was one on each floor, the stick broom for the kitchen and the hand vac for all of those steps.

Hands down, I think the best Dirt Devil ever created was the Ultra MVP. I did have a commercial model plus come through the store a few weeks ago- metal bottom plate, metal handles and still performing strong after 10+ years

Maybe in other parts of the country people hold onto things longer. Here in New York, they're almost non-existent. I'd like to find an original Regina Housekeeper 1000 in good working order. Most of the early '90's Dirt Devils I salvaged from the garbage had burnt out motors, and that was 10 years ago....

I see very few of them around anymore. The ones I see the most of are the BroomVac, which is my favorite of them. I should get one someday, but I keep passing on them due to space issues. The handvacs I still see pretty often too. I used to have the toy handvac that ran on 4 AA batteries and used a rubber band to turn the brush. I should have kept it, it was a neat little item.

I did find one of the Roommates in the trash. But it seemed the motor was bad as it gave an awful burning smell when I powered it up.

wow...

This is an old post! Most of these are gone now, but have been replaced by a few different ones. I'll try to get an updated photo within the next few days!

Is there a market for these anymore? I wouldn't mind letting some go...
