I want to replace it with a normal hose but don't know how to get the connector at the machine end off. Any help appreciated!

If you know

of a place, vacuum repair or other that will make you a new one using the couplers from your old hose, that is one way. I took my non-electrified hose to a model F Electrolux to a guy who specialized in making custom hoses for just about everything. Have you checked the archives here or on you tube for hose repair?

are you wanting to

remove the old hose from the connector or remove the connector from the machine?.If its hose from the connector just drop it in some very hot water for a while and it will just pull off along with the shroud thats on the end

The plastic cover at the end of the hose will come off when you get the hose off. The hose is more or less screwed on the connector with some glue. If you twist the hose it should come loose or just cut the hose and take pliers and pull on the wire reinforcement in the hose.
