Just curious how others enjoy their collections. Do you use all your vacuums or do you have a daily drive and just display the others? Space right now is a premium for me, I have to store them in a way that makes them hard to get to other than the front few. I’m trying a new strategy though where I dig one out, use it everyday throughout the week and then replace it at the end of the week and get another one out.

Space

Space is a premium for me as well. I have a good portion of my collection lining the walls of my bedroom. I have one in the living room along with my 515 Kirby lamp that I can trade off from time to time with other Kirby's in my collection. Most of my Kirby's are packed away. I don't use any of them as daily drivers.

I don't have space to display my vacuums, although a few favorites are lined up in my back hallway, for lack of a better place to put them. I've had to move the majority of my vacuums to my barn to make space for a 'temporary' housemate, who has lived with me for the past ten months. At first, she gave me a bunch of crap about them, suggesting that I get rid of all but one, her preference being an Electrolux upright. The Kirbys, she says, "don't work"—mainly because she doesn't know how to use one, IMO, but I digress.

I don't use any one machine as a 'daily driver," because truth be told, I don't vacuum daily, or even weekly, for that matter. I use whatever machine is either close at hand or would be best suited for a special task. I have admitted to myself that I do indeed have too many vacuums and that I really do need to thin the herd, but where to start thinning? The best I've been able to do for a little more than a year is to avoid buying any additional vacuums. I guess that's progress—not prefection—but progress, nonetheless.

Occasionally I'd need to dust all my vacuums out with a Swiffer and so when I do, I test run some of them for like no more than a minute. Other than that, they're all just for displaying. I only use one vacuum for daily use and that would be my central vac.

I mostly display my vintage vacs while my Miele PN canister and Sanitaire upright are my DD's. Occasionally I pull out a vintage vac to use. As with so many vac shops back in the day, my bench vac is a Filter Queen, specifically a beige model 31 because my paternal grandmother had one. They don't make 'em like that anymore.

I don't have a dedicated room for my small collection, but I have space under a 12' section of my model railroad benchwork. Needless to say they aren't uprights!

I kind of enjoy my collection, I just wish i had more of the machines on my wanted list or ones that are rare. I kinda use all my vacuums but sometimes i will set out one vacuum and call it a daily driver
