How do I remove The motor housing cover Guardian C134C Electrolux

I am newbie here. I finally got enough courage to open up my old C134C. Guardian. Motor stop working. I did have brief burning smell before she went. The floor sweeper is working so it is getting power. The fan blades moves so maybe it is a bushing issue. But one thing I can’t do is to remove the motor housing cover.. No screws to loose. Do I need to remove that red rubber band first?

Any suggestions

Mike, that's not a red rubber band, it's red tape. Probably put on there to increase the motor housing diameter slightly so when you put the hose clamp on the motor housing it makes it seal well.

The motor is held onto the housing by friction, just give it a good pull and it should come right off easily.

The black motor housing gets super brittle over time. Be very careful and treat it gingerly. That red piece (tape) is designed to seal up the motor 100%. The easiest way to do it is to put something super flexible amd thin to break the seal around the motor amd work it off slowly. Work it around slowly while pulling the black housing. Just an fyi on the last models of that unit they finally went to a hard plastic.

An update on motor housing cover removal.

I was successful in removing the cover but it was a very slow process. I used plastic prying tools that was flexible enough to open it up. I took a flat prying tool and pushed below the metal seam around motor base. Once I had a slight opening I then took a 2nd prying tool and worked my way around slowly and it opened up. It really was a struggle. Unfortunately, I grabbed the top exhaust vent and cracked a small piece off. After inspecting the motor I saw that one of the carbon bushing was worn out. I found a YouTube video which showed how to remove and replace the bushing. I picked up a replacement set on eBay. The set also comes with a tool to hold down the spring when installing the new bushing. Part #JE Adams 8055EM And 8056EM Motor Carbon Brushes 2pk Vacs With Instructions. After reassembling everything back I am happy to say The old C134C is up and running again. My next project is to replace the cord winder. I am glad to find this forum on Vacuumland and would like to thank everyone’s input on this.
