HOW DID THIS END UP IN THE US???

I was browsing around on OfferUp and came across a DC03!!! The “guy” wanted $10 for it. Messaged him and he was very flexible when to meet and seemed kinda sketchy. Surely enough I showed up and it was the real deal. It was a young kid probably 13 that owned it. He wasn’t a collector either. I asked him where he got it from and he said a friend gave it to him. Oh well handed him $10 and off I went. The thing is actually pretty good for traveling the world. Still has all the origanol attachments and nothing is broken. Besides the enormous marks on it which I think I can get off its in pretty good shape. Its not even faded at all. Such a weird design of a vacuum. Super slim and tall. What country is this from? Has a 2 pin plug and some other language on it that I can’t read. Lol.

Very interesting! It appears to be a German model, pretty sure the sticker on the handle translates to "no loss of suction". Very nice find and a keeper for sure.

Schukel plug-for 220V-Indeed German.Our German AEG transmitter has 220V Schukel outlets on it!For the German test gear that came with the transmitter.

How it got here?

Perhaps with a returning US army or other military veteran. Many are stationed in Germany. Kaiserslaughtern, Ramstein air base, Zweibruken, etc.
You can also buy American products near those bases, namely cars and pick ups.
Americans also work and live over there for short term intervals, and rent places, and set up house keeping. My neighbor works for Heller tool and machine company. He just spent a month there, and is going back in two weeks for another month.
He is training new vocational students who choose their trade in high school.
Most of the plants and trades in Europe also vacation all at one time, so they are often short of help. They take up to a month vacation all at once.

That is a valid reason for why it ended up here. However what still is crazy is if someone was over there for a short amount of time that they paid a pretty penny for a Dyson for living there for a short amount of time. Also where could I get a transformer so that I can run it on 120 V.

That's a model DC03. I have one in Clear plastic (see thru). It was Dyson's second production model Upright - the first with brush control (bare floor friendly). It uses a small motor (like the one in an Electrolux Discovery upright. It's fairly high pitched, and runs somewhat hot. Nice find. We should get our DC03's together for a photo shoot since I'll bet they are the only 2 DC03's in the USA.

Also when people move here from another country and are downsizing whatever leftover stuff that they have that they can't find a place for in their new home.

There are a lot of Hungarian and Polish immagrants in my town, and my local Salvation Army often has German stuff in it. I got a Nokia satellite TV box from there in 2016, just for the hell of it, I always see a lot of VHS tapes from Canada, and I just seen a whole stack of German cookbooks there last week.

With that vacuum I'm sure someone realized that it wouldn't work with USA wall plugs and gave it to the kid to play with, and then he needed some money and sold it off.

If you want to get it working you'll need a high wattage power inverter to plug the vacuum into, it resembles a car battery charger.

I'm not sure how a Mr Clean magic eraser will work on plastic, but if it is not abrasive im sure the scuffs will come out.

For the smudges....

you may try some 91% alcohol with at terry cloth. Depending on what the smudges are, it may wipe off with a few wipes of the cloth.

91% alcohol can remove the color from plastic and strip it, so I wouldn't risk it.

Its definately a German Schuko plug and the word in the last picture kundendienst is German for Customer Service.

Voltage Converter

Dyson DC03

I had one, but the motor noise frequency set my teeth on edge.

This machine was supposed to be a lightweight model compared to the DC01 and DC04, i.e. suitable for Grannies.

The dual cyclone chamber is similar in concept to previous machines, but the diameter of it makes it a little susceptible to clogging. Air watts are about 90AW. So not great.

The other side of the machine has two HEPA filters. One is a filter before the motor, the other one is after the motor. I found that these expensive filters clogged quite readily.

Suction was woeful, the Hoover Triple Vortex which itself had poor suction, did a much better job at carpet cleaning.

I have had 2 customers bring in vacs that "won't work here".The first years ago was an Australian version of Hoover Convertible.More recently a Generation Kirby from Singapore.Both customers were overseas for a year or more with high paying jobs that included packing and shipping all household items to US.I traded the Hoover(& still have it among 80 plus others)and changed motor and cord on Kirby.

Thanks for the info

To remove the marks I will be using Vick’s Vapo steam. If you have never tried it then you must. It works wanders on marks and scuffs. It wipes them off in seconds.

Thanks for the info on the transformer I was wandering what the best one would be.

I assume someone moved here and brought the machine not thinking of the voltage difference... I have. DC23 that made it here like that. I also found an Australian Hoover Turbopower in a thrift store one time. I really can’t believe that one still!
