"Hospital G" Electrolux...?

I'm still fairly new to vintage vacuums, but I saw what I "think" was a Hospital G Electrolux at a thrift store yesterday...?

It was white with turquoise wheels, but it was missing the blower cover (just an open hole there).

Was the Hospital G the only model that came in white & turquoise, or could it have been something else...?

Unfortunately, whatever model it was, it was the canister only... and since there were no attachments I'm not sure it's worth an hour's drive back to get it.

See photo. Note the large metal filter housing on the rear end. The Hospital G also came in white and tan; see link.

If that was a Hospital G you saw, I'd say it certainly would be worth the drive back to get it -- and hope it's still there!! Even if it's missing the large filter. You might find one someday.

When you have an opportunity, could you show us the brushroll from either the Hospital Tan G or the Hospital Turquoise G? I convinced my mother we needed the Hospital Turquoise G and she traded in her regular Turquoise G for it.

I remember one of the big selling points was the brushroll had three rows of chevron brushes as opposed to the standard two rows. I still have a Power Nozzle with a three row brushroll. The brushes are horsehair and in reasonable good shape.

I was told that the three row brushroll was too much torque on the P/N motor and they would burn out too fast. My mother traded in the Hosital G for a 1205 so we did not have this problem. Shortly after the Hospital G was discontinued, the three row brushroll was very hard to find and then quickly disappeared.

If you can provide a photo, it probably would be of interest to our readers. Thanks!

3-roll brush roll

Well Charlie m' boy, that's a new one to me! Neither of my Hospital Gs came with power nozzles, and I had no idea that this beast even existed. I will have to peek at all my pre-1205 power nozzles to see if any of them have this. I have one Model F, three or four turq G (also same for R and white L) one with long single cord and two with detachable leads at hose handle, then one for tan G and L.

Do you recall if the color scheme of this special PN was different? btw Marty Rocha's tan G also did not come with a PN.

I've got a P/N with the 3 row brushroll and will shoot and post it later today. I'll see if I can put it next to a 2 row brushroll P/N so the difference will be visable.

To the best of my recollection, the P/N that came with the Hospital G was in the regular turquise G colors. There was an optional longer hose but mother got the regular length.

She had the vacuum till approx. 1970 and then got the 1205 at my urging. Little did I know..................

I did know about the longer hose

and am just dying to find one. I know there was an extra-long turquoise G hose; wonder if there was also an extra-long one for the Tan G as well. And wasn't that extra-long turquoise hose the one that came as standard equipment on the first Electrolux commercial model, the CA?

I remember seeing a commercial CB in 1205-blue that had a long woven hose - same hose as the 1205 but about 10 feet long. This must have been made for just a short time, as all the other CB hoses I have seen were gray coiled vinyl hoses.

There were also extra-long hoses available for the Model XXX and LX/E ... just try to find one though!

One Model E that I remember from my childhood had one of those extra-long hoses. The machine was at a grocery store in the area where I lived at the time. They kept the machine in the rest room for some reason, so of course every time we went to the store I had to go "pee" but of course what I really wanted to do was see the Electrolux!

They stored the hose by draping it over one of those huge horizontal commercial deep freezers --- the hose was so long that it nearly reached the floor on both sides -- it was about 12 feet long -- the same woven-cloth gray hose with blue tracing but much longer.

And I have a piece of XXX-era literature from Electrolux that lists some available options for the Model XXX and one of them is "commercial-length" hose but it does not state how long it is. Anyone ever seen one?! Anyone have one?! I know one person who has an extra-long LX hose but, knowing the person who has it, it will never see the light of day.

Well, I took the pics yesterday but am only getting around to posting them today.

I didn't know that Lux made those extra long hoses for all those other models. I knew that the commercial vacuums offered the longer hoses. Was the Hospital G intended for commercial use or was it made for the home with allergies? The filter on the exhaust end was really not that spectacular by today's standards. I loved the color combination and the upgraded brushroll---it worked wonders on wall to wall wool carpet and the oriental rugs.

Here are the pics. In the first one, you can see the proximity of the rows in the brushroll is much closer on the P/N with the turquoise roller in the bottom plate.

A different view with the visable difference. The brushrolls in these P/Ns are genuine Electrolux and have never been replaced. The brushes are in remarkably good shape.

One P/N is very early with no clean out plate on the bottom, (2 row brushroll), and the other is a later model with the clean out plate, (3 row brushroll). The early one also does not have the circuit breaker for resetting when the brushroll gets jammed and you can see that is only says, "Electrolux", on the hood. Later the words, "Power Nozzle", were added. Even the style of block print is slightly different.

Charles, are there other differences I am leaving out?

Charlie I have never seen that brush roll before!! I think you did note all the differences except one that I am aware of -- the early one with no clean-out, no reset button, simpler lettering, also has a gray plastic roller on the bottom instead of turquoise, as does my early version. This is a hold-out from the model F PN1 that has that same gray roller.

btw my earliest G PN1 still has the long, single cord with clip-on clips. Those are pretty hard to find as most of them were upgraded later when the newer cord with the rubber straps and the handle plug/socket connector were introduced. See how even yours has been upgraded -- I can tell without seeing the entire handle because the cord coming out of the back is turquoise -- the earliest ones were gray, same color and material as the main power cord.

My understanding of the Hospital G was that it WAS intended for hospitals -- The "sanitary" filter and all that, and also that it was so quiet in operation (without the PN, at any rate) that you could vacuum in a room where someone is sleeping and not disturb them, e.g., patients in a hospital.

I've never seen that brush roll either

However, I do remember that the PN-4 for my Oly 1 came with an optional brushroll that had shorter bristles and a beater bar. I wasn't impressed with it. I probably used it twice before I put the original brush roll back on the machine.
