I have been looking at Hoovers website and they state on one of their purepowers specifications that it has a bag check light and an quick release dustbin one it is bagged so has no dust bin and two, they got rid of the bag light in like 2003, so I have no idea where they got that from!

I also hate how they only have the purepowers as there only bagged option, the rest of there machines "turbo powers" etc are bagless. I don't know why Hoover do not offer more bagged machines like in the US, it apears that on there Hoover website they are almost half and half.
please Hoover make some more bagged units!

I would say it was an error rather than a lie. As for the lack of bagged cleaners, they are probably supplying the current UK demand. Bagged cleaners are, by and large, still very unpopular.

Unfortunately you're right Benny.

They are definitely taking the easy route by just following what people want.

If I were CEO of Hoover (or should I say Candy), I would design a low wattage bagged upright cleaner with all the perks of the modern bagless ones (stair cleaning hose, motorised pet hair tool, HEPA filtration etc...) then run an independent advert on television explaining in simple terms why bagged cleaners are a better purchase choice over bagless.

Of course Hoover is making so much money from their cheap bagless units that they would never do this but as Elvis said - if I can dream!!

You use the word 'competition' and I find this interesting. Why? Well because when the Dyson DC01 took off here in the UK, it had no direct competition in terms of a bagless cleaner. This remained so until 1997 when Electrolux brought out the Powersystem. Then came the Hoover Vortex. A different option for would-be Dyson buyers, yes, but sold in pitiful quantities. Consumers liked the DC01 and once they knew their friend or neighbour had one, it became the must-have purchase of it's time. Because of this, no other vacuum cleaner could ever compete with it. Because of that, I think other vacuum cleaner manufacturers should have stuck to making bagged cleaners only. The demand for them would certainly have been present, from people who didn't want to spend the money on a Dyson, and, in time, people who had dispensed with a Dyson.

Hoover "had to make" bagless

Did Rainbow 'have to make'vac with no water?,did Kirby'have to make'canister vac?,did ShopVac 'have to make'dry pick up only vac??John,I and many, value pics and info from N Canton and agree this is a factual statement of Hoovers attitude. My point is how and why did times change?--IF,someone had visited in 1920 would they report that Hoover "had to make" an upright WITHOUT rotating brush and belt because Royal said you can clean a carpet 'by air alone'!?!?,Jimmy

I think I agree that hoover didn't want to copy the Dyson or make a bagless unit, they just saw that it had taken off on the market and thought "hey, people are not buying our cleaners anymore, they have taken our sales, maybe it is because it is bagless?" so they made there own version that was very similar to the Dyson to try and get the market back again, they must of thought "we are the bigger brand here that people know and trust" (at the time that is), this ultimately back fired and hoover lost it all together, ahh well, shit happens, they did lead the way though for over 80 years by that time.
I think we can learn from this, that it was a bad choice and hoover should of stayed bagged and they may of still stood a chance? maybe? maybe not?....
