There can be no doubt that the success of Hoover in the UK was down to extensive marketing, but also marketing support from Perivale to the dealer network. On tool was a window display competition which Hoover ran for several years and publicisied in the dealer Magazine "Hoovergrams". This is the edition from 1948. Apart from the models displayed, in many cases there is great wordplay in the displays

The first of these is one of my favourites. At the time there was a radio programme called Housewives Choice which was a daily record request show, which forms the basis for the first picture in such a beautiful manner. I also like the "framed" display too, so very simple in concept

Another nice play on words "Its got me beaten" and in the bottom "Breaking the News" One thing I notice, perhaps a sign of the lack of availability of cleaners (as most were going for export" is that many of the displays do not display teh full model range, hardly any dustettes and few 160s

Its my pleasure

I have some more scanned which I will load when I have more time. Apparently in the UK we had Hoover News which was for the factory and Hoovergrams for the sales force/dealer network, with supplements called Activity. Was there anything similar in US, Canada or Australia.

I have similar magazines from teh 1930s for Electrolux too
