Hoover Z help

I have had a hoover Z400 sitting in my garage for several years now, the machine is fully functional except for one crucial part, the filter.

Years ago when I first got the machine I replaced several parts including the filter. However the entire batch of hepa filters that had been most recently made for the machine were made incorrectly, specifically the metal shaft which goes into the machine and allows the filter to spin. Instead of creating a new batch of filters TTI decided instead to make the part NLA (I only found this out months later after trying to get my money back....)

I have since tried to remove the shaft from the old filter and fit it into the new one, and I left that at the local vac shop to do for me while I kept the improperly made shaft and old, dirty filter. Fast forward to now and the vac shop seems to have lost my filter, so I have been trying to grind the shaft I have to make it fit in the machine and fit the old dirty filter. Needless to say it isn't going well.

My only hope is that someone on here has a filter, new or used (I do not care at this point) or even an entire machine they would like to get rid of. I appreciate any help.

Those are not worth fixing. The self-cleaning filter is clunky, even when it was new.

They may not be worth fixing for the average consumer who is looking to repair their daily vacuum cleaner, but don't forget that we're collectors and most of us aren't interested in collecting or fixing vacuums just for the monetary value of them.

I agree, I have known all along it won't be any good when working. I suspect these will be very hard to find in the future, heck they are nearly impossible to find now. I only really want it as a collectors piece.

I remember reading about this machine way back in 2006-2007. Made after TTi bought Hoover out. Hoover killed them off due to their clunky nature.

My understanding was these were introduced in 2006 prior to tti, who aquired hoover in 2007.

You are correct, it is amazingly clunky and strange in design. Doesn't feel well built either. Honestly those are some reasons I find it interesting.

I guess my taste in vacuums is a little different than the norm on here.

I have both models of these in my collection. Awful vacuums but like Scott, I too have a variety of taste when it comes to vacuums. Maybe why get along so well huh.
If you can't find the part you need I only need one as I will never use these for deep cleaning and when I wanna play with them I can switch the filter from one to the other I guess. Hell drive up to my mini meet in Sep and I may tell you to take both of the complete vacuums with you as I need to thin some of the more contemporary vacuums out. Those were a lot of what was put away during the convention. I either need to thin or make another spare bedroom into a contemporary upright room.

I have a brand spanking new white one.

I'm taking a gray one with me Friday to Tom Anderson's when I visit. It's great to have one, but, if there were a fire, it wouldn't be the first thing I'd grab.

I have never used one but they sure are interesting to look at! I have seen a couple at Habitat over the last few years and they are HEAVY! I couldn't imagine pushing it across the floor or carrying it up the stairs.
