I can't tell whether TTI (Hoover's present maker) is trying to dazzle us with brilliance or baffle us with BS but it's gone whole hog this time by way of its infomercial for the Hoover WindTunnel Air. It even displays a pick-up test versus a Dyson. (They also utter the much litigated "no loss of suction" slogan and don't appear to be shaking in their shoes about it.)

I love how companies rig the competitors units to look like they are not working.
The first competition against the DC25, (on the hardwood) there is some derbies in the canister but notice it was never spinning around, obviously they didn't turn it on. The second Competition against the DC25 the brush is not turned on, you cannot the clear area they have it painted out and the sound of the DC 25 is different then when the brush is on. Its a shame that companies have to do these sort of tricks.

Hate to dissagree with you but, first of, thats a dc24 not a dc25, second as a dc24 owner, I can tell you that this infomercial is not exagerated, the dc24 really does snowplow that bad. And it sounded like the brush was working fine, and finally, the dyson has little plastic fins in the bin to stop things from spinning. In other words, I think they did not misuse the dyson at all.

I do disagree here you can tell it was on because of things sticking to the front. the windtunnel air, from what i've heard, is a GREAT vacuum. I do think they are exagerating on the sticking to the ceiling thing but im not going to bash the product.
 
Thanks for sharing this video... I love vacuum infomercials.... I only watched the first 10 minutes so far, and will finish the rest tonight.... they showed a Dyson, and Oreck, a Eureka Smart Vac, and a Dirt Devil Jaguar as the "bad vacuums".... some of those aren't very good vacuums (not the Dyson or the Eureka though)...

They had a point about snow plowing.... my best friend cleans houses on the side and he usually uses his Prolux or his Royal back pack vacuum and today he went to a ladies house to clean for the first time and she was so proud of her Dyson DC25... My friend hated it because it snowplowed and he couldn't figure out how to get the hose off and he didn't like that the brush turned off when upright because he wanted to vacuum the stairs with it upright since he couldn't get the hose off.... he also said the handle was hard to return to the upright position and the machine kept falling over because he thought he had it locked upright and walked away and it wasn't.

Anyway, back to the Air.... I've never used one, but the infomercial seems well done from what I can tell so far.... the machine sounds really loud and whiny though.... however, it looks good!
 
I doubt it was turned on

It was very obvious that had they gone a bit slower with the DC-25 it would have easily chomped the Windtunnel Air or leveled the playing field as shown by how quickly the guy brought the Dyson back to hastily turn it off on the carpet as it actually got almost everything that could have been gotten up except for the stuff in the front that didn't get sucked up due to the Dysons carpet-suction-sealing design.

This is why the Dyson snow-plows. A Kirby will snow plow just as bad but it's one of the best machines in the world for pulling out deep embedded dirt. As is the Dyson I'd wager.


Not so sure on the Air...
 
Ikinda liked the part where they were trying to clean under the chair. I know what they were trying to do and prove but really they could have just went behind it and both machines would have cleaned up the mess. I would consider buying it but I like my canister.
 
I have nothing against the Hoover, in fact I want one really bad, it looks like a cool machine. I still do think that they over exaggerated on the Air Max. I understand though all informercials do this, it is their way of selling. I would just love to see a company show just the facts about their products, highlight the features and benefits of them. When I was in sales I never once bashed another product. I just highlighted the greatness of the products I sold. If you truly have a great products they should almost sell themselves.
 
I like how non-dyson brands always pitch against dyson, they are advertising dyson! Notice how dysons always say 'other machines'?

I have owned thed uk version, the Vax air and I was really impressed with it! Probably because the cyclone is a copy of dysons. It's cheaper plastic used on the TTI machines though, so not sure how long they will last. Also I didn't rate it on hard floors. But over all a great lightweight machine!
 
Whats funny though is that they didn't mention the word Dyson at all! One lady said her old Bissell blah blah blah, but the "Hoover people" never said a brand name. I loved the giant Smart Vac as well.... where the heck can I get one of those? My Smart Vac is too small! You could clean the entire White House with three passes with that monster!

They have another one on there about their Twin Tank Steam mop which was fascinating.... The customer testimonials said words like Swiffer and Shark steam mop, but I don't think the Hoover people did. Interesting they only compared their steam mop to the Shark and not a Haan or Eureka... maybe those would have outperformed it! On the marker stain on the tile, the Shark was actually getting it up and they had to stop using it to make it look bad.... then they said, "look it couldn't get all the marker up"... they pushed the Hoover slowly and the Shark fast, I just don't know who wouldn't be able to see through that kind of thing... Of course I have no doubt that a Hoover anything is better than a Shark anything, but if they were that confident, they could have been more realistic in their demos...

I think some of the demos were exaggerated or staged, and I find it funny that Hoover has resorted to infomercials to peddle their products. It seemed like the hosts were talking down to people almost like they were stupid (but many vac consumers only understand that kind of talk, you have to put it in dummy terms for them).... but overall, the commercial was very entertaining.... I really enjoyed watching it.... not compelled to buy an Air though :o)

Hoover copied Oreck with the whole "We let you keep the free gift if you choose to send the vacuum back".... the free gift is a "Hoover Air" cordless hand vac..... a Dirt Devil Scorpion painted lime green and branded as Hoover instead.... fascinating!
 
The Air is actually pretty quiet, I would say the plastic doesn't feel the same quality as my dc18, sad as I do like it. I have no doubt with the gaskets they barely mention that it would stick to the wall or ceiling, that sucker sticks to my slik Oriental rug like mad. It is a fun machine.I took it to my friends house, she is getting older, does not vacuum often, has a famous light weight 7 lb machine. I had to empty it 5 times in the living room, this is 11X17 freize? yea, she was shocked.Now I have to take it over weekly.
 
Having seen this info=commercial, Yeah I'm sure there are a few flaws but as the owner of the Vax version, I'd say for the most part, it isn't fake when it comes to general use. I would advise anyone to actually get a test drive of this vacuum, or go to someone's house or flat if they have one, so you can get a feel for it - it is a good compact upright with very few downsides.
 
Hate to Break it to al you hoover lovers out there but that machine is actually a vax ( also owned by tti ) but it was designed and developed by vax in the uk.
 
It looks like a cheap copy of a dc18 in fact that was there inspiration for the machine, I like my Hoovers allot , I love my original wind tunnels but lets put it this way, when all the other company's decide to design a new bagless vacuum the first thing they do is buy the dyson in that market bracket and try to copy it as much as possible with out getting sued. every thing n that machine is a dyson copy , the shape , the wand , even the combi crevice tool .

When for goodness sake will hoover and Eureka come up with there own ideas and concepts.

I own a dc24 that we only use on the wooden floors , I have never in my life seen a dc24 snowplow like that, its near on impossible to do as its little wheels on the sole plate keep a clearance between floor and vacuum.

You are so right > have any of you seen the LG advert with the super model who is been vacuumed thin by some LG canister vacuum. In the advert it says that this LG sucks better than the dyson dc29. that is all every one hears is dyson. I have at least one person everyday come in and ask to buy the dyson that is in the ad with the fat chic , there words not mine.

I sent a letter to LG thanking them for all the sales with a gift basket , I have made so many sales thanx to there advert I thought it was the least I could do. I also offered them a good discount if they wanted to get a proper bagless vacuum hehe and i wouldn't tell on them
 
the more you watch it the more BS you see , they blocked out the dc24 clear brush housing so you can not see the brush spinning which they switched off.
as for the eureka smartvac, That is an awesome machine yes its heavy and a beast but wow what a nice vacuum
 
i am a hardcore hoover traditionalist over my 36year hoover dealer career...i was given a windtunnel air by hoovers president for me to test.....in may 2010....i still use the same windtunnel air for two years and use it daily.....he and our upright director who brought it to me had me put it through the paces and it is still standing.....it sucks up sweet scoop wheat cat litter effortlessly with the brushes off...sucks up cat fur like a dream one being a persian the other a manecoon.....and it never stops....i hope all you collectors enjoyed my model o ....300...82....and my custom built hoover convertible prototype i built for him.....i only wished they lit it up....i built it out of all new genuine hoover parts that i have stock piled and i love building new hoovers from them......the 82 had the models and samples pink slimline 2000 wand and floor tool.....i wished they used that on but the constallation just pops...culturally speaking....if you want a better look of the vintage cleaners used in the infomertial go to my web site at sweepercentral.com to the video section and watch both videos
 
I don't have a problem with the machine itself I have the original vax version sitting in our samples storeroom it is a very good vacuum. I am not intending to offend any one of you guys who love Hoovers, I love my older Hoovers and even the wind tunnel Original ones that was true hoover innovation

My problem is as follows , why cheat in your informational and second why can't a company like hoover or even Eureka for that matter come up with there own ideas instead of taking a 7 year old dyson design and modifying it to look a little different to avoid lawsuits and sell it as there own product. Surely these big massive company's have the ability to come up with there own unique design. Its almost shameful. One of the reasons I stopped consulting for Electrolux SA was that #1 I was asked to Join the dyson team here and i was already only selling them but #2 I felt that why stay with the copycats when I can Join the original team.

gsheen, as they say in France -- I feel you bro'.

I think the answer is simple -- why actually work for a living when there are so many easier ways to get around a little brain strain by following the path of least resistance to make your money.

Speaking of money, what do you think of the change in proportional expense for what's being offered? A good while back the cost of a decent machine that was durable and performed well might have cost the average working person a week's salary. Where do you think we stand now?
 
I can only speak for my own country here. I do feel that vacuum cleaners have gotten cheaper to buy even the good ones , if you take what they cost 15 years ago and compare it to what the average salary was 15 years ago I think they have gotten cheaper
 
I bought one when they first came to my local Walmart...used it for about a week and returned it. I liked it, but just couldn't justify the then cost of $200. Wish I would have noticed when Hoover.com was selling them refurbished for $50 last Christmas (as seen on another thread)...that was a great deal!

Has anyone compared the Hoover to the Eureka Airspeed Zuum? (I think only available @ Target as of now, for $99 on line, $89 locally )
