Hi!

I just bought a U3103 Concept One. I got it for $5 (instead of $10) because the motor was as loud as a chain saw. I have a few questions: (1) Is it supposed to be that loud? (2) When was the Concept One made? (3) do you have any vintage ads for it? (4) What bags does it take?

Motor will need your typical service due. Total disassembly and clean or replace bearings, inspect motor shaft, possibly new motor brushes, fresh grease, new belts, etc etc. Also inspect fan for damage, wear to the blades, or wobble. The Concept One is a great vacuum and a venerable tank when fully operational. $5 is a very good deal. I paid $10 for my Concept One at Goodwill and $130 for my Concept Two on eBay.

concept ones are extremely loud because of the dinky motor fans they have. motor service might help, but they are not at all quiet machines. thats one reason why i dont like them.

your 3101 is the very first concept one from 1978.

Concept

As above they are loud, great and 1978.
Bags--Type A,best with better micron filter.Y or Z can be used as they have same size opening.
I have seen very few Concepts with fan problems as compared to 100s of broken/cracked Convertible & Elite fans.

Agree with most of above, noisy but I like them. Same size bag opening, however not supported for any weight. Mine tore off the collar after some use.
