well ive wanted one of the first generation for a long time now, so when one comes up on ebay i just couldnt refuse it, it came with a panasonic upright but that has been sold to a fellow collector, anyway here it is

Is the handle switch rather inconveniently situated do you think ?

For me I imagine I'd end up turning it on and off all the time during operation.

No, because your finger sits well above the switch, in a comfy little groove.

the only issue i have with it, is that its not been used for a long period so the motor sounds alittle off key, but a fair bit of use will sort that problem out

like vintagerepairer stated its pretty convienent but to be honest i have ones where the switch is on the top of the bag housing and there pretty convienent

Upholstery nozzle

The upholstery nozzle on that looks identical to a vintage Hoover Celebrity one. It looks like it has the raised button on it for locking in as well? Does it have the red rubber fingers? Those rubber fingers were great, no other manufacturer that I know of used rubber on an upholstery nozzle, but it works great for grooming the pile and causing static electricity to pull dirt up to the suction stream. Hoover only used that style in a canister though. The upright upholstery nozzles had the shape of canister upholstery nozzle, but the whole thing was plastic, no bristles, rubber or other material for agitation. I say vintage because the Hoover Dimension 1000 canisters in the mid 1980's had a slightly redesigned attachment set which Hoover continued to use up until around 2009 when the Anniversary Windtunnel canisters hit the market and the PowerMax/ Futura/ Spectrum/ Windtunnel style suction units with locking wands were discontinued.

Upholstry nozzle

The upholstry nozzle is the classic hoover design, first seen here on the 862 Constellation in 1959, although they are in black here rather than white as they usually were. And yes, it has the rubber fingers too. I would agree about its effectiveness (it was good on stairs too) although the Lux butterfly design here has ridges in the "wings" which went some way to simulate the effect

I agree Al, the 2-In-1 Electrolux tool's upholstery tool was great, as was the dusting brush.

I must say I have not seen a black one with the red rubber fingers. These later examples had cut outs in the plastic and were no where near as good as the original with the fingers. They were very effective on pet hairs.

We got them in 1983. They did not stop production until about 1997, and even then a basic softbag model was still around post 2000. I think by 1997 there were only two or three models on sale, but from about 1988 to 1994 Hoover just kept knocking out one variation and colour after another. They have got to have been one of the UK's most popular cleaners I think.

i saw that one

i was so tempted to buy that one it was with a white panasonic if i remember i like those to its the only one i dont have from the original line up my blue 2198 is what i use everday its on you tube somewhere lol im not that clever and dont know how to put the link on here lol
