Hoover turbopower plus

I am due to be getting one soon when the people im buying it off get it out of storage. Anyone got any pictures, catalogs, information on it. Any personal experience with them?
What is the layout like?

Hi Jake,

It depends entirely on which Turbopower plus you're getting - they're a THOUSANDS of models. The Turbopower ran from 1984 to 2001 and was Britain's best selling upright throughout the 1980's. The original line up consisted of 2 hard bag models (one with cord rewind) and one soft bag model. In 1990, it was relaunched with on board tools to complete with Panasonic and Electrolux machines of the time. Although very popular and relatively reliable, they are quite flimsey, so don't be too rough with it. The dirty fan design mixed with the famous activator brushroll made the Turbopower one of the best for carpet cleaning. The suction power on the hose, however, tends to be pretty pathetic - especially on the "pan converter" models. Here is a snap of the Turbopower I owned from the late 1990's

Here is a video of the U2194 from 1984. This was the mid-range of the first generation of Turbopower's.

The Hoover Turbopower Junior Softbag. This one is from the 2nd generation of Turbopower's launched in 1986 and was the entry level machine.

The Turbopower's are some of my favourites - they were absolutely everywhere when I was a kid. At least 6 of my family members owned them. Some of the guys on here will be able to give you more info on dates etc, but feel free to ask if you need to know anything.

Make sure you get some pics of the machine when you get it. Also, if you post the serial number, someone will be able to date it for you.

The one i am getting is like the turbopower from 1994. I would however love a red one, my nan had one of those and are quite hard to come by in my area. I remember it being quite noisy but looking at videos now they seam to have that powerful hoover growl! Thanks for the information!

The later red model above had a different motor to the rest. It was 575w instead of the old 450w and had a really cheap white plastic fan and motor housing. This made the later machines MUCH louder than the earlier ones. If you're getting the grey Turbopower plus (U2602) it will be dated anywhere between 1990 and 1994 and will feature the earlier style motor

I saw a Hoover TurboPower3 in Burnley in the British Heart Foundation store (next to the bus station) on wednesday, I think it was £10 or £15, thought little of it myself as modern vacs like that don't really appeal to me...

The turbopower 2, 3 and 1000 were nothing like the original Turbopowers. They were completely redesigned clean-air machines, and pretty good ones at that. But they had little to no resemblance to the original Turbopower's and certainly weren't as popular. The name wasn't particularly suiting either, as the dirty-fan design and location of the motor nearer to the floor was what made the machine "turbopower" in the first place.

I had no idea there was a BHF shop in Burnley - may have to investigate (my boyfriend is from Blackburn and my housemate is from Barrowford - I am surrounded by Lancastrians lol)

There's two of 'em, the small one along "Charter walk" (never did understand that name) that has clothes, bric-a-brac and kids toys, and there's the one in the old Kwik-Save building next to the bus station which sells furniture, appliances and electricals, I usually visit the latter, though after next sunday that'll be no more for me cos I'm off up to live in Co. Durham from then...

That's where I got my 3rd Hoover Junior from, they didn't really check it over properly, so it's a good job I take everything I buy apart to make sure it's safe, and that's the Junior that had that cracked fan as pictured in another thread recently, could have been fun if it threw a blade while running... :S

all BHF shops charge a fourtune of vacs in bucks. A cheapo upright was £25!

I paid £15 for my Junior from the BHF store, probably a bit much considering the thing needed a serious motor overhaul, (bearings (brushroll & motor), fan, carbons (I think?), cable, brush strips, belt, pretty much the full works!!), but as it's for a charity to keep the ol' human ticker going, I'd rather the money went to them than to something I don't really care about...

Actually I got a bargain from BHF a few months ago.
A Filter Queen 360 for £35 or was it £30 either way I snapped it up)
It was in decent condition as well)

I got a 70th Anniversary model for £35 from the Sittingbourne branch last time we went to visit my Mother in Law. It was missing the upholstery and crevice tools but a look on Ebay got those for £12 .

Got a Medicare filter and 6 genuine cones for just over £20 inc post from a US seller, hell of a lot cheaper than from the UK lol....
