A couple of weeks ago, my really good friend Michael bought me this Hoover Turbopower U2602 as a gift for my birthday.
This is one of my dream machines, and I LOVE it sooo much, I had wanted this exact model for a LONG time, and finally, I got one!

When I got this at home it looked almost brand-new, there was hardly a scratch on it.
When I looked around the back there were lots of cracks around the bottom of the body, about four. I had to disassemble the entire machine, and then my dad and I fixed them up with gorilla glue and attached steel plates on the backside for support, which is stuck on with gripfill, so hopefully they will not get any worse!!
Apparently it was very common for the total systems turbopowers to crack, because of the added weight of the tools and or autoflex.

The U2602 has a two-speed 450 watt motor, attached cleaning tools, bag check light, air freshener and headlight. Oh, of course, not forgetting the activator brushroll which comes as standard on any turbopower model!

Mine has a few rattles, but runs great, has all it's tools and is in one piece. Now without further ado, here she is.

Now for the damage.


Long crack on the left hand side, at the bottom of the body, it is about eight inches long.
There is also a crack that is about an inch long at the botom left hand corner, if you look closly at the photo.

Crack on the underneath part there, which has been glued with super glue and a metal plate is on the inside for support, because it is near the handle release so I don't want it to get any worse, otherwise it will not stand up.

There is a crack there on the side of the body, infact, it is more than a crack, when I unscrewed the bag door the whole piece came off in my hand, so again it has been super glued and the inside has a metal plate on the back for support.

There you can see the metal plate that is stook on really well.
There is also a little metal plate at the bottom right hand corner of the bag housing, as the piece of plasic that should of been there had snapped off leaving a whole where it was, so I had to put in that piece of metal to fill up the whole and for support.

Nice photos. I had a couple of those one as shown. Much prefer the TP2s and 3 series but each to their own. The problem I found with the TP1 models generally with the hard box was;

<li>Top handle prone to being wonky due to holding screw - and hey there's a crack that happened to mine but on the other side by the bag full indicator.</li>
<li>Hose getting clogged - not because of the narrow diameter but because of the dust channel to the side.</li>
<li>Bottom chassis cracks - especially by the brush roll</li>
</ol>
 


Still they're a good handler when it comes to general cleaning, but still prefer the Junior for a more nimble clean or Senior for "taking ones time."

Great vac there Alex. These were bloody everywhere when I was a kid. My Aunt Sally and Aunty Dee both had them. My grandma had the red lower spec model that ran alongside it. I knew of loads near where we lived too.

I love the red one, my friend mike has the red one, nice and basic.

I just need a new motor for my U2602, the armature is bent so instead of just replacing the armature, I will just replace the entire motor. I thought it would be quicker than messing around trying to find the correct speck armature.
If anyone has a 450 watt turbopower that I can by for spares I would be very thanful, or just a motor, but it must be 450 watts and two speed, preferably, if not I can always switch out the feild coil.

I love the red one

there were actually about 3 different versions of "the red one" with no distinguishing features to the average person. The earlier ones were 450w. There was later a 575w version and later still, a 600w version. The later 2 models used a rather nasty, cheap plastic-housed motor and very little sound insulation, which made they ear splittingly loud (even compared with the earlier models).

Some of the 450 watt turbopowers from the mid 90's had a plastic casing around the motor unlike the older black casing, the freedom to my knowlege was 450 watt and the boost was 575 watt and they were both out at the same time, the 575 watt was out at the same time as the 450 watt, to my knowledge.
