Hoover Turbopower 2 Autosense U2464

This is my Hoover Turbopower 2 that I got off eBay last week for £11.50, it is intact and it even has the original sales sticker on the front housing of the bag door, which I haven't seen left on this particular model in other pictures I have seen.

The seller I bought it off described the item as, "good condition and missing some tools but works well" When I got it home all the tools were missing with the exception of an extension wand and obviously the hose, the long and short crevice tool, dusting brush and upholstery tool were all missing. Hopefully they will be able to be sourced later on, however if anyone knows where I can find a set of Turbopower 2 tools in the correct colours I will be very grateful.

When the seller said it was in good condition I almost tour my hair out when I saw it, it was filthy and I mean filthy!!

Thankfully it works as it should and all the replacements it needed was new bags, belt, and filters.

It took a while to get this one cleaned up and after a lot of hard work it is almost show room shiny with the exception of a few scratches. I think it is was well worth the effort of cleaning it up and hear is the finished result.

Wow, what a find! This was also one of the first models I ever collected. I loved it! I had all the tools bar the short crevice tool - (never like the long scabbard tool, yet.) Eventually settled for Telios and Arianne tools. Look out for grey ones that are almost identical to the original tools with this one.

By the looks of this serial number this one was made in August 1993

Mine is useing paper bags but I believe the permabag system 2? was available for this model as an optional extra.

I have just sold mine to my aunt. It is a turbo 3 and needed to have a life again! (I'm try to cut way down on the amount I have. Passing them on to friends and family is quite good as I can still use a particular model of I need to! Luckily I have a huge family)

I love the clouts lout of yours though. I think that is my deffo favourite.

I was lead to believe that the turbopower 3 autosense models were not as sensative at senseing dirt as the turbopower 2 is this true, I also read somewhere that the turbopower 2/3 and 1000 had a far to narrow hose for a clean fan machine and it would put strain on the motor is this true? if anyone else has any suggestions?

Which are on your machine. Which are narrow for a clean air upright.

It's funny that you should say that about the auto sense of the turbo 3. I havnt heard it before but I did think that the machines I had's auto sense wasn't as good as I'd remembered..

when you turn it on, it goes into medium them low if any dirt hits the sensor in the bag conector then it turns back onto medium until all the grit is picked up

you can also hit the turbo button to turn it into high this is meant for the use of tools i think

the bag full indicator light glows up when there is a blockage or the bag is full also if it is in low it will go to the medium setting

Now that is odd!

From looking at your last picture of the dirt sensor, the sensor on yours apears to cover the entire bag conector and mine does not :s maybe because mine is a later model but not sure, here is a picture of the sensor on my one. (sorry the picture is on it's side but I am uploading it from my phone)

I wouldn't read too much into the motor strains. My TP2 is still going strong with the guy I swapped his Sebo X1 Auto for - nothing has ever been replaced on it bar the bag and filters (naturally).

In general use, I found my TP2 U2464 stayed on the medium setting whenever it was required to clean carpets and pick up was largely excellent. I was never a fan of the small spindly wheels at the back though and didn't like the path marks they left on short pile carpets. As you will have found out quite rightly, the top power level is only suitable for use with the tools and hose. But you're not really missing out on the power of the 1000 watt TP3 - the U2464 is a great starter model for collectors in so far as the lights and buttons are concerned. I loved the edge cleaning that the TP2 gave though.

The 1000 watt TP3 has a wider hose on it to compensate for the bigger motor. It may also have been produced at a time when the Purepower arrived to take over and uses a similar hose.

I see your model has the clear removable dust channel strip on the base - that was part of the Special Edition 900 yellow model (had one of those too). Mine was all matt grey/black and the yellow model had a ribbed slider that could take the dust channel cover off compared to the screw you have to undo.

The Permabag hard box is usually available on EBAY at times - but I just wouldn't bother. It leaks dust! No comparison to a dust bag. I initially started out using the open H4 bags for the TP1 models but found that the more modern sealed dust bags were better.

Thanks for the info sebo_fan, angain sorry not sure of your name, I was tempted to try and find the permabag box but judgeing from what you said about it, I might as well not bother lol.

Michael has the special edition turbopower 2 in the yellow colour that we call the (bannana hoover) LOL, but yh hi does have the ribbed slider to remove the dirt inspection channel, unlike the other models that had a screw.

Also I won't worry about the hose to much to be honest as the autosense usally runs on low unless it detects dirt, and I never find my self useing it on high for the carpet unless I am useing the tools HAHA (what tools!!)

I am still really curious about that sensor being bigger on michaels and it being quite small on mine, I would like to see a picture of the turbopower 1000's sensor to see if it is the same as mine sinse it is from 94 and is even later.

In terms of names, sebo_fan is all I need..

I think the sensor may well be larger on the 1000 watt - just to compensate for the "bigger" power. I have a couple of brochures featuring each and Hoover claim 14% improved suction based on their TP1 uprights - clearly the TP2 and TP3 were different according to pricing - just like a lot of brands at the time who were producing same machines, slightly different features with same on-board components.

I had the Special Edition 900 for awhile. It was okay, but I didn't like the fact that it had no bag fill indicator - what was worse was that the original LED light had a blank cover over the body at the top. Then I discovered the Dirt Devil upright based on the Hoover TP2/3 series and got a few more years out of the bags and filters I had kept with my original TP2 U2464.

I didn't really like mikes special adition 900 not just because it didn't have the bag check light, it was because overall it was not very good, compared to my u2464 it is just better overall.
If you still have your u2464 is your sensor like the one on mikes or is it like the one on mine? I wonder why if they are the same wattage then both the have a different size sensor :s

His u2464 is older than mine, his is from March 1993 and mine is from August 1993 don't think that has anything to do with it? but the only thing I was wondering is does it really matter if the sensor is bigger and is mine supposed to look like that?
