hi, I found a hoover turbomaster at the trash today. I do not know anything about this machine but it is in perfect condition so I gave it a chance in my collection. Can annybody tell me anything about it maybe a owners manual? thanxx

Turbomaster

They were the bigger brother of the Turbopower range. Used a slightly more powerful motor. The 'activator' agitator uses a two-belt system: flat belt and poly-'V'.

When switched on in the upright position, the agitator should be mechanically disconnected; it should only turn when being used in the normal operating position, provided that the 'agitator-on' selector is activated.

Which version did you get: soft-bag, hard-bag, or hard-bag with tools attached?

GOD!

My all time favourite cleaner

My Mum had the U5096 and my Gran had the U5094

My Aunt Carol had the Total System Leccy Board special in Carmargue grey. The only one im bloody missing!

Heres some pix of my brutes.

the other half responds....

hi Calum.

will post a better piccy or two of the starlight in the vintage forum - dont want to hijack this turbomaster thread.

Jeepers! why cant me or rob find a turbomaster in the trash - we have to pay for em! and they aint bloody cheap.

Which model have you found Edgar? please post a piccy of it if possible.

As far as i know, there were 7 models of turbomaster (in the UK anyway).

U4362 Softbag (me and rob have just bought one of these from a fellow collector and wait with baited breath for its delivery. cant wait)...

Turbomaster U5080.

This was the same as the U5078, but had variable electronic speed control.

Known as 'Turbomaster Electronic'...

U5096 - again!

the 'Turbomaster Total System Electronic'.

Basically model U5080 (of which Seamus has a great example), but with the variable electronic speed control....

Model U5130

The slightly flawed 'Turbomaster Freedom' - the bagless version, that used to let a fair amount of the dust back out of the machine again!

Launched in the early 90's, with the U2662 Turbopower Freedom, neither machine was very successful (due to the design flaw) and conversion kits to convert the machines to bags were offered by Hoover....

& finally

Model U5120

This machine was sold only through the state Electricity Board Shops in the UK (dont know whether this version was ever exported).

Basically a U5094, but in a strange (and a bit bland) greyee-green colour....

There were US versions, sold as 'Innovation', but i think that that is all the European versions.

Be great to know if there were others!

cheers
paul
