Hi guys,

I realise this isn't perhaps the best way to start a new membership by requesting help, however I do know a lot of you know more about Hoover Turbomasters than I ever will.

A few days ago I bought a U5096 off of eBay for almost £130, unfortunately when I pulled the cord slowly and gently out for the first time it went with an almighty bang and completely refused to pull the cord back in.

Cue further Inspection - the spring inside the cord rewind had snapped and cannot be retentioned.

I have rang around all the vacuum shops I know and have spent a fair amount of time on the tinterweb trying to locate the rewind assy to be constantly hit with the word OBSOLETE :(

I am writing this post to see if any of you collectors out there may either have a complete cord rewind, internal spring or even a broken Turbomaster with the cord rewind intact.

Any help would be greatly received!

Thanks all

Hi there and welcome aboard!

This was a common problem with the autoflex models. My Dad's U5096 did exactly the same thing, and he had to store the cable looped around the handle. I hope you can get it sorted.

Hi, many thanks for your kind welcome!

I think it may be a put away somewhere safe for the foreseeable future as I can see it taking some time for a donor machine to turn up.

I was gutted when it happened because Its in beautiful condition, I think its the universe telling me to go back to collecting only Kirby's and Sebo's like have always done in the past. Never had much luck with the Hoover Turbos sadly :/

Thanks again

Cameron

If it wont rewind, try turning the cord rewind back in the oposite direction that it winds up, in other words, the way it turns when you pull out the cord to unwind it. It should put tention back on the rewind spring so it winds back in.

Do you have any photos? I am not sure what you are talking about when you say something has snapped.
