Yes, it looks great Alex. The fact that the Hoover Turbomaster was such a popular cleaner in the UK despite the rather poor suction on the tools and the inconvenience of same makes me wonder why the likes of Panasonic and of course Electrolux did not make anything of the fact they had "clean fan" motors, unlike the Hoovers which at the time had fan-first "dirty fan" motors.

#9...Thanks, yeh, I like to restore them as best as I can, to their original state. It is pretty mind numbing but looks great when finished. 😊

#10...I always thought the Turbomaster was Hoover's best upright that they produced in terms of cleaning ability, the hose suction on the Turbomaster could not match the power of a clean fan machine, all be it, more powerful than the Turbopower...The suction through the hose was pretty good for most jobs and certainy fit the bill, in my opinion.
I think perhaps Panasonic and Electrolix didn't pay that mich detail in competition perhaps?

Alex.

Alex, it has to be said that Panasonic and Electrolux did very well too, I am not sure how they veiwed the competiton, but what I do know is that both Panasonic and Electrolux advertised their cleaners on TV a hell of a lot. Hoover didn't promote the Turbomaster anywhere near as much.

Why? Well TV advertising cost a kings ransom and it did seem to me that sales of the Hoover cleaner could easily be made once something had enticed the consumer to the showroom for whatever it was they had seen on TV. Once there they would see the Hoover cleaners too.

Hoover had a very loyal customer base so they could probably afford to be as laid-back about advertising as they seemed to be. But if Electrolux had boasted in their adverts about how easy it was to use the tools, and how it had filtration, that would have left a mark on the mind of the consumer perhaps.

This said, I do have to remind myself that every manufacture of any product has to be able to keep up with demand, so for all I know they may not have wanted any more sales than they had.

Nice Alex!

I like vintage British goods which have the royal seal on them. I found some nice octagon shaped Johnson brothers "greenfield" pattern dishes from Stoke on Trent with the seal last month. We use them everyday now.

Sebofan, I don't remember the first of those adverts at all, though I have seen them on Youtube. Electrolux and Panasonic always seemed to run many more. Then second advert I always considered to be not for the Turbomaster per-se but for the Freedom bagless contraption which Hoover had just brought out. I do recall Hoover advertising a lot in the early 80's but not the later part. That could just be my memory though.

Electrolux and Panasonic always seemed to run many more

On the contrary, I have seen far more Hoover ads from the past online, than any other brand, not to say there were not many Electrolux and Panasonic ads, just going by what I have seen on YouTube.

Alex.

Here on tv add's either.

Later Electroluxes have a bad reputation. Not the Aerus ones, but the others from Hungary, and or China.
Panasonic here is mainly Sears Kenmore, for now. Hoover has few commercials, mainly QVC promotions. The neat cylinder Hoover had that swiveled upright and sideways behind furniture wasn't even offered here.

During the mid 1980's when Electrolux bought out their 612 cleaner, it was advertised a lot in the region where I was a viewer - the advert I recall most was the one with the lady who had a 612 competing with a sportsman who didn't. But there were some other shorter ones too which I can't recall. Panasonic made a huge deal of their wall-to-wall upright cleaner, with the tag line that if you have a wall-to-wall carpet you should have a wall-to-wall vacuum cleaner. Also another where they cleaned a snooker table.

The Electrolux Contour was another one which was advertised on TV - the advert I recall most was the dinner plate being held up by two vacuum cleaner hoses. When the none-Electrolux cleaner was switched off the plate stayed attached to the other hose, but switching off the Electrolux Contour caused the plate to drop.

Apart from the Turbomaster Freedom advert I don't recall seeing many adverts for Hoover upright cleaners from the late 80's until the Turbopower 1000 Autosense (diamonds) advert went live. But as before I am sure there were some. I do remember plenty for their cylinder vacs, particularly in the late 80's and early 1990's, and of course for their 3-in-1 which was a rival to the heavily advertised Vax cleaner.

Thanks Benny, I have never seen those Panasonic upright ads until now! I guess the reason there were far and few between was when WHICH took it upon themselves to stir up trouble when a child stuck their finger into the brush roll of a moving Panasonic upright who were then forced to fit silly covers. I should fish out the magazine somewhere to show what Which thought of those early uprights.

Infact I will do that later on. I also have Which tests of some uprights including Turbomaster.

Sebofan, I was never much of a follower of Which?, in fact I am still not, so I didn't know they picked up on the Panasonic story. I do know it was all over the TV show "Watchdog" one evening.

Interesting too what Alex said about more Hoover adverts on Youtube than any other - I think again it highlights the Hoover mentality that "more is more" as I don't recall many of their adverts running for long, but do remember lots and lots of different adverts.
