A while back, I bought a Hoover Special 105 on eBay that runs VERY slowly but is in decent shape otherwise. As per Marty's instructions, I finally got around to removing the motor cover, and took a look at the components. Everything is in good shape, and the bearings turn freely. I plugged it in, flipped the switch, and...there's the problem! Only one of the coils is "firing", so to speak. The other one is dead (no sparks), causing the motor to run very hot (if it all; sometimes it wouldn't turn on) as well as the slow-speed problem. Any suggestions on how to correct this?
