Hi folks,

I picked up this little gem in a vintage and collectables shop near where I live today, complete with a boxed set of tools for the grand total of £20. Very happy with it. Needs a clean and some TLC. I will post some pics when it's had a service.

Looks like those tools saw

a good time! I never saw that style hood before. I know your "Seniors" look like our "Convertibles, both the regular and "ranger" style hoods. That is a first for me. I'm also amazed that they kept making Ultraflex" hose over there long after we went to Tufflex over here.

"nice hose suction with a brand new bag on!"

Indeed, but unfortunately after only being used once or twice the suction decreases rapidly for the hose. It's a shame as the hose and tools were so well made and would have performed brilliantly given the chance.

I would love to get the tools for my Senior, Even just to try them just to see what the suction is like I am willing to bet I will be surprised and will probably be better than others make out.

I had used the tools on my Junior briefly and I thought the suction was excellent for such a small motor and was way better than "others" claimed.

"I don't use them like a 'shop vac'"

That is true, but who uses an upright as a "shop vac" aka Henry anyway?! You would just use a cylinder vac for that or like I suggested, a Henry, you have got to love a Henry though! :D

That is true John, they are more than adequate to vacuum along the skirting boards or for light upholstery cleaning (they won't get deep down dirt, ironically).

I do use the tools with my 1977 Ranger every now and again, but my main reason for not using them often is because it sounds like a jet engine when the motor revs up to 600 Watts, my poor ears!!

senior tools

back to the senior/ranger tools...if you look at the front of the metal covering the fan it seems to close in a bit and is slightly raised as if to slightly reduce the gap which remains open when the converter is in place...its always puzzled me why they didnt fill it in right to the pulley in that area thus completely closing the gap when the converter goes in.....the earlier side entry converter system on the "citation" type senior...and before that the 612? seemed to harness more of the suction..and they didnt have a 2 speed motor...did they?

Perhaps that is why they introduced the two speed motor on the 652 and Ranger style, to make up for the suction lost through the converter...Perhaps if you were to tape a piece of paper to the sole plate to cover the front opening you would have suction sealed off completely. Just a thought.
