Hi guys I wonder if you can give me some advice,
I just purchased a hoover senior 652 pink and white and I think its a very early one
the serial number is JS22662
I put an add in my local wight bay and get this three hours later the mobile range saying I see your looking for a pink and white senior. I said yes I cant believe this I only put the add in three hours before hand.
The man does house clearance for a living I asked him do you know if it works he said he would plug it in and see. I think it sounds OK he said.
Without appearing to be too eager I said what time does your clearance shop shut he said 430 so I said OK will pop over some time this after noon.
Turns out this vac was in a loft with get this 20 old lawn mowers and some badly damaged other seniors well past their best junkers.
I looked at it tried to hide my excitement as this appeared to be very early an example. It even has its original vinyl bag. The foot switch seems to be a different colour than some of the later pink ones and the hoover sign is on the cable storage side of the bag I have not seen the hoover sign on the right side of a bag before.
Can anyone help me date this please im thinking 1958 59 can someone tell me about the bag with the sign on the opposite side that's odd, but its a genuine bag. Also the foot switch appears to be original but different shade of red.
My other advice I need, as im use to pre-war Hoovers, what kind of paint should I use to re-spray this vac with,on my vintage stuff mostly aluminium i have used car paint to spray handle bars with. Butt this later classic has a painted body as well.
My question is what kind of paint should I use on this body as its got to be scratch and knock resistant. I was wondering something like a stove enamel or fridge paint but I do not know if this would be right.
I am told that with the heat from the motor and the light bulb this often warped the pink hoods. Should I change the bulb for something less powerful to prevent hood distorion. The hood has no cracks so in good nick Advice is badly needed im not sure how to deal with that.
One thing I noted odd was that the head light lens cover has a darker carbon stain that seems to of been burnt into the plastic light lens, odd any explanation of that would be nice.
The stain is on the left side I cant get it off seems like carbon etched into it or burnt on from the inside. Would that bet heat and a stain from the carbon brushes?,as inside the pink hood is a lot of black sooty material.
It seems to run OK ,and I have left it running to see.
The man wanted £15.00 for it and I knocked him down to £10.00 so I think I have a good deal here.
When I first got it , it was covered in mould all over black mould and stank. The pink was hardly visible from the mould and dust. The bag I left for a couple of hours in the bath tub with a drop of bleach and some surf washing powder. It has a tiny 3 millimetre tear but easy to fix from the inside of the bag. Any advice on how best to deal with this tiny tear would be very helpful!!
Oh one more thing guy's do you think the motor sounds ok just a quick vid of it running.I was wondering when i shut the motor down does it sound dry at all.
Thank you guy's for your time on this,I value the experience of other's who know more than me ;-)
