Could you post a picture please? I think my old neighbor has this same cleaner. I would like to see how much she wants for it. Also would anybody on here know the year that line (Powermax) was produced.
It has automatic tool conversion. You leave the hose connected into the base at all times There is no suction thru the hose when the vacuum handle is lowered for rug cleaning mode.. When you lock the vacuum back into the upright position the suction is diverted from the brushroll area to the hose.
Just bought a Hoover PowerMax at the thrift store for $9.99. I've wanted one, so I bought it. I'm with Pete the PowerMax is not a bad vacuum. The onboard attachments are a great feature, the suction through the hose, is okay but I didn't expect it to be that great anyway. They are great carpet cleaners just like the Concepts with the Quadflex.
I believe they came out 1989 and ended 1994. I think 6 models were produced ( red, turquoise, burgundy, navy blue, dark green, and black )i was told that another dark blue one was made with a few different features than the first blue one?
Someone correct me if I'm wrong, but with the several of these that I've worked on, I seem to remember two different designs of hose attachment. Early and late you might say. The later one was a simpler (cheaper to make) design. It results in two different kinds of hose attachment fittings depending upon which design you have.
And did they not use different brushrolls throughout production? I have a dark green PowerMax from 1993 that uses a plastic brushroll similar to the Elite. This one also lacks a bag topper. I guess that was a cost-cutting touch?
