My wife bought me a Hoover PowerDash Pet back in July and its been a good cleaner, but here recently the motor sounds absolutely dreadful and has a bit of an electrical smell. I stupidly didn't register it when I had the receipt and don't know where its at. I fear the motor is going bad. Is it worth just cutting my losses on it? I thought about putting a new motor in it, but the ones I've found were $40-$50 and I didn't really see putting that much into something that was about $90 brand new. Its just disappointing since I've only used it a handful of times and the motor is trying to go out on me. [this post was last edited: 10/29/2020-14:26]

When something breaks, you fix it. People are getting too lazy anymore in just throwing things out instead of fixing them because they can't get what they need for free. $40-$50 for a motor is a great price. It cost me $130 to put in the correct used motor shipped from North Wales in England for my rare Miele Black Diamond that cost me $10 after someone ruined it with an aftermarket motor out of a Hoover.

Take it to a vacuum store and have them look at it. It could be a faulty wire, or could be the commutator has an arc, or maybe some dirt got in it. Also check the tubing and water channels for leaks as well. The motors are made to be water resistant so it getting wet shouldn't be too much of a problem.

I’m honestly leaning towards fixing it. It’s a good cleaner but I think I got a lemon. I’d rather not throw it away. I’ve put new motors in vacuums and I’ve maintained my entire collection over these years so I’m going to treat it no different than I would a vintage one.

2nd Hoover Powerdash pet cleaner

I have had the same issue as original poster.
When I addressed issue 1 week left on warranty. By the time Hoover responded it was after expiry.
They finally sent me a new one but told me I couldn’t use warranty on this one.
I have used it maybe 8x and it has done what first one did.
Motor sounds ruff and a rubber smell!
Yes I have taken apart all possible and nothing is wrong with belt etc.
It won’t even turn on as with the first one!
