Well i got a lesson in geography today. Ya see i got 3 Hoover Portapowers. The oldest being a 70's model, white with sporty strips & with the crazy huge turbine sound motor (see pic, same as Dialamatic i've read). The next two are both black & look just like what you see in the market now, except one of those also has tan accent pieces. And that tan accented one is , "assembled in Mexico" where as the other black one, just given to me, is not, it is "made in China"...
& oh yeah & the last one i mentioned is crap (despite being nearly new).
Really never been one to China bash, but man the things done poorly on this machine ...(sigh) well pretty much ruin it for me as being recommendable to anyone for anything, unless you get it for free like i did.
Just one example, the power switch barley functions (no 'click') as it should & it causes the lights on the same circuit to flicker & cut when turned on. My other two Portapowers do not have such problems despite being older & vastly older respectively.
Really odd because so much about these machines is otherwise identical it's hard to think a consequential amount of money was saved with this corner cutting.
A vacuum is a tool, i hate crummy tools...

the link is a nifty site on rebuilding your Portapower something i've now done to all 3 of mine at least in the form of a thorough spa treatment.
