Just acquired a Hoover PortaPower II model S1315 at the flea market yesterday for $8.00. It is in excellent shape, but only came with the hose. It would seem as if some models even had a full-bag indicator. The suction is pretty powerful. What do people on the forum think of the Tempo/Portapower II/Hornet line? I'd love to find a Hornet, as I recall seeing them in P.C. Richards not too long ago....

Those Tempo/Hornet/Porta Power II vacs were OK until the Style R bag started filling up. Its amazing how big the R bag really is and how small the space for it is inside the vacuum. Somebody didn't do their homework when designing them. Does yours have a cloth bag? If so, that may make it a better performer too.
I have a green Tempo and it uses the R bags and you really can't finish cleaning the car before it starts to slow down. The original Porta Power's and Swingette's were much better. I think you still might find the original commercial Porta Power at a Hoover dealer.
All in all what you have is a fun vacuum for a collector. Not a bad find. I'd keep it.

Yeah, I have two of those Tempos, one with the tool saddle, and both curbside free finds. Cute li'l buggers - I like the compact shape and cord winding grooves around the body. The bags are an expensive pain being larger than the cavity provided.
I find their low suction combined with the lightweight powernozzle ideal for running over the bed's duvet cover, which is my black cats' habitual daytime and overnight snooze spot. Amazing how much fur they shed in a week.
When I vacuum the car or the boat I like to pull out a gleaming vintage classic to keep the neighbors strolling over and myself amused, since my garage is only 20 feet from the sidewalk in plain view.

OK, I haven't seen that one yet, it looks like another one for me to watch for. I like that better than the original PortaPower with wheels stuck on.

Thanks for the info guys. I guess there are pros and cons to the original Portapower vs. the Portapower II. I do have an original PortaPower with the Oreck name on it. It's called the Oreck Powr-Pak (precursor to the Buster B). Even though the style R bag fits in a very small housing, I think the Portapower II had a larger dust capacity. Now that you posted that pic I do recall some of the Tempos as having a power nozzle. I will definitely hold onto this cleaner, as I don't see very many of them around anymore. I'm gonna try and find a set of black attachments to match.

This vac was Hoover's answer to the Eureka Mighty Mite. Even though this is a bad picture of one, you still can see the similarities.

I have a black Mighty Mite I inherited when my mom passed. It's about the best plastic machine I've ever had, the suction is great.

Here is my Portapower with Wheels. I still like this better than the Eureka Mity Mite!
I think they have somewhat better suction than the Mighty Mite, the wheels on yours look more substantial than the MM. If I ever find a PortaPower with wheels, I'll grab it. So far, I've only seen pictures.
That was a clever idea on their part. I like the look without the most. Of course the idea of wheels is that it won't mark up your floors or the bottom of the unit, or fall over every two minutes when you pull it.
