Here is my latest rescue. I almost did not pick up. I am glad that I did as I did not have this model in my collection. It came from the estate of former Hoover employees. Once the dirt came off of it, it was in great condition and runs great. There is nothing like lugging around a machine as heavy as a coffee table to clean your rugs and furnishings!

It is model 2201 and serial number 38,575 which makes it an earlier model. It was made from 1966 to 1972. This was the second cord reel Portable model. It was top of the line until the "Super" Portable arrived with big wheels in 1969. Oh...by the way...everything packs under the hood like luggage! (It is known as the "suitcase" model by employees)

Very nice, Tom. I used to see these fairly often at estate sales, but haven't for a while. I think Fred found one at the St. Louis convention at a thrift store - the first one I actually had ever used. Other than being a little cumbersome, they aren't too bad.

Another good save!

Hi Tom, glad you found this!. You know thats my favorite Hoover non-upright model......I think I have 4 of this design, each one being slightly different. BTW, I picked up another Hoover blender and Hoover Spirit canister model at our favorite thrift store the other day.......The blender was $3.00 and the Hoover Spirit was $4.00! Just cant beat those prices.......and both are in excellent condition........Jimmy

Guy...

The suction on these machines is very good. It uses the Dial a Matic motor so it has plenty of power. The bag is kinda small but it works very well. This one is very well made especially the cord reel.

Pete...

I am unaware of the Portable being issued as a commercial model. I think that was the Portapower and I know the Celebrity was commercial too.

Jimmy...

Wow, sounds like you have found some great Hoover items. That thrift store is great. I cannot wait to go back. Which blender was it?

Hoover Portable

Hi Tom, Those finds are always the best, I always thought this was the first until Simon & yourself updated us on the Lime Green model...The UK models where made by "Hoover France" under licence..

I got this one complete with box and delivery stamp...It was delivered to and used by the "Great Western Railway Dept" Crewe, and was used in the Station Managers Offices...

Mike...

All that I can say is WOW! It is very rare to get the box for ANY machine. Your grouping of orange Hoovers is great. I did not know that they were built under license. So all of your Portable models were built in France. Amazing. You found a beautiful example.

Hoover Portable 2201 vs Celebrity III

Hi,
Just wondering if it is heavier than lugging the celebrity? and Is the suction more powerful in the celebrity or the portable?

Thanks!
