I purchased a Hoover Platinum bagged upright about 4 months ago to use at home, I live the vacuum so far except for the fact that it stinks horribly when I use it. At first I thought to change the bag and that did not help, it is not a normal vacuum smell it is more of a smelly gym sock smell. I have taken it apart and cleaned it with the air hose to get any dust and dirt out of it and put a new bag in it again, but for some reason it still smells. Most of the time I am really good with this sort of thing this time it has me stumped. Any Ideas as to what may be causing the smell?

I found some nifty little scent packets...

My aunt show me this little scent packets or "satchels" with scent beeds in them. It tells you not to open them but of course I did. I put them in my Windtunnel & G4 and it smells of "fresh cotton" everytime I use them. They are located by the candles, potpuri, and such.

I have no clue, the only thing I can think of is that I use it on the rug in my entry way and there may have been a little moisture that ended up in the bag. So now I bought a Dyson DC 22 canister down there. Which the canister is great but doe snot work well on my thick carpet in the rest of the house/

Well, if you replaced the bag and still have the smell, it's likely in the tubing.

You have a six year warranty on it; why not get it to the service shop?

cheap and easy way to cover vacuum smell, buy some cheap potpourri and put a handful in the new bag, or crush some on the floor and vac up. do not try to vac up large CHIPS of wood, large dried flower head.

i can always find some old xmas/fall/etc on sale and buy a few bags. works good.
