Hoover model 62 and 26 roller brushes where to get?

I have two 1952 Hoover model 62 convertible vacuums that I use for my daily vacs. Would anyone know where I could buy some roller brushes for them? also I have a 1937 model 26 hoover vacuum my 90 year old Aunt gave me I would also like to get a set of new brushes for it. Anybody out there have a source to buy them at? Thanks Bill,

Hello, anybody with any input regarding these roller brushes. I know this must be a issue for a lot of collectors of vacuums. If they are not available what do people do to restore these common vacs and the more obscure brands regarding roller brushes? Thanks Bill

Hello again. Still looking for information about replacement roller brushes for hoover vacs. I know there are a lot of big time vacuum collectors here that have restored vacuums for years or owned vacuum repair businesses. Are you just out of luck period when you need roller brushes for a old vac? Or what do you do? Thanks Bill,

Many collectors have spent lots of time and energy (and have gotten really dirty) hunting through old vacuum stores for these old parts; have you tried calling around to any old vacuum stores to see if they by chance have some laying around? 


 


It would also be helpful if you would post photos of the brushrolls for which you are looking for new brush strips.  There were many different varieties of brush strips for Hoover models over the years.  The 62 could have the original style brush strips with one screw, or it could have "canoe" brush strips, depending on whether or not the brushroll was ever replaced. 


 


I am pretty sure it was on VacuumLand, where I saw someone re-bristle an old set of brush strips by hand, using bristles from newer Convertible brush strips.  You would have to search the archives, though, for that thread.  I think it was one of our UK members. 


 


I've given many sets of brushstrips away over the past 10 or so years, and most of what I have left are now being saved for the machines in my collection.  You just need to be patient, watch eBay, and be diligent with calling around to old vacuum stores.  Also, networking on a site such as this will help.  I'm sure someone out there will have what you need.  The Vacuum Cleaner Collector's Club is having its annual convention in Cleveland this year; that would be a great place to meet some of the other members of the club and begin networking for some of the old parts you are looking for.

Brushes

Are you referring to the brush strips that fit into the agitator? It depends on the style. If its the narrow curved strips that screw in you are out of luck as those are incredibly rare. The more available type are the broader, canoe type, screw on each end type of strip. Pics of what you are looking for are helpful.

Thanks for the replies HooverCelebrity and BVAC6, thats about what I expected the answer to be. I picked up my first model 62 Hoover in 1980 and had the foresite to buy extra replacement parts and brushes at that time for it. Then I came upon another a few years later. (they are blue and a light grayish brown). Between two of them now 34 years later I am running out of parts. They have the original brush rollers in them. The brushes that they take are spiral die cast aluminum with one screw and are two different lenghts per roller. I am a pretty good scrounge when it comes to finding parts as almost everything I use is vintage. Yes I have checked Vacuum repair stores in Cleveland unfourtunitly most of the older stores are gone that would have had these parts. I did recently find and bought four original of the short brushes even though I might not ever find the long side but I thought it might be worth the gamble. I already figured I could probably put later model rollers in them that I can still get brushes for but ( It don't seem right). These model 62's make the best sound when running of any Hoover I have used. I am not real computer savvy to post pictures but I will try to get my son to do it. I recently passed on a model 29 Hoover at a estate sale ( should of bought it ) There is one on Ebay if anyone is interested # 201050376627.
