Musta got googled again - this time from a 95 year old Farm Lady. I've been offered this model 281 for $20. Yes, yes, bless my stars yes, please. :-) Excited and will arrange to pick it up this weekend.

Needs a bag spring but otherwise in excellent condition, she says, as the picture shows - note Canadian maple leaf. However, I know nothing of this model other than the gorgeous bakelite hood design.

Can someone provide the details? I couldn't find it at Vintage Hoover Museum...

Wow!

Never heard of this machine before, although I am aware of the Canada-only Hoovers with maple-leaves on. I wonder what the first model of this kind was? The earliest I've seen is Model 600, which is essentially a Model 450 with a polished, rather than painted, hood, so it looks like a mini-800.

That's a really great machine, Dave, grab it quickly!! :D

Spoke with Margaret on the phone tonight. She says she was always careful not to bump into things and it has no cracks but she did have the cord replaced a few decades ago. :-). She bought it new when she got married and has used it ever since. But now it's time to go live in her kid's granny flat. Imagine - 95 years old! And very computer internet savvy - she did google for info, came across a Canadian entry, me, and was happy to find me close by. Was impressed and so figured I'd care for it so she emailed me.

Going to get it on Sunday. Too exciting!

Beautiful Hoover, Dave!

It must be the Canadian version of the U.S. model 28, which was made from 1946-1950. The 28 was a popular model, and one of my favorites. Mine was rebuilt for me by Tom Anderson and looks and runs great. Thanks again, Tom!!
By the way Dave, does the lady have the cleaning tools to go with it?

I forgot to ask. Didn't want to seem too dorky or greedy. But I will ask, of course.

Mm, was either a second vacuum, the first one late in the marridge, a second marridge or a miscommunication due to the blood rushing to me head blowing all the wishin' & wantin' circuits. :-)

Wow! The 28 has become one of my favorite Hoovers. The quiet-ness and great cleaning of these models is amazing. Fit the cleaner with new sweeping brushes and it will clean carpet better than a Dyson!
